PhD candidate at Stanford. Geology, volcanology, igneous petrology. I study magma and make puns. 🌋
If giant supereruptions tapping rhyolites stored up to 1 GPa are more your cup of tea, come check out my second

Come check out my AGU talk tomorrow at 4:15pm (350-351) on our rhyolite-MELTS modeling which illustrates highly efficient crystallization directly from basalt to rhyolite fueled recent volcanism at Córdon Caulle.

New paper out! 🌋 We used rhyolite-MELTS in some unconventional ways on the spectacular Cordón Caulle system and learned that it is feasible that these rhyolites fractionated directly from a basaltic mush. Was such a fun project with great people.

In one step: Insights into shallow differentiation from basalt to rhyolite at Cordón Caulle from rhyolite-MELTS simulations
Magma mush systems are commonly invoked as the source from which crystal-melt segregation produces rhyolites, but these systems are rarely observed. T…
