On this day in 1885, Gov David Hill signed the law creating the Adirondack and Catskill Forest Preserves. The law required that all state lands in eleven Adirondack and three Catskill counties "be forever kept as wild forest lands." The Forever Wild clause was later added to the NY Constitution

There’s lots of great research happening in the Adirondacks and we’re lucky to have the Adirondack Research Consortium that works to connect researchers with each other and the public.

We were in Albany this week asking the Legislature to include $425 million for the Environmental Protection Fund. The EPF funds maintenance, stewardship and acquisition of State lands in the Adirondacks. We were led by environmental champions Senator Pete Harckham and Assemblymember Deb Glick!

The NYS Adirondack Park Agency is poised to reverse a 18-year long trend of not ordering proposals to an adjudicatory hearing! We welcome this news as it is the only means according to the statute for the APA to deny a proposed project.

Vote Yes on Prop 1! The proposed amendment to NYS Constitution, Article 14, section 1, the famed "Forever Wild" clause, will allow winter sports activities and facilities on 323 acres at Mount Van Ho. The State will gain 2,500 acres of land that will be managed in full compliance with Article 14.
