It's a weird feeling to realize more and more that as much as loneliness and isolation robs me of much joy in life, it also protects me from the many horrors that others are made to endure. Nobody wants anything to do with you, but the flipside of that is they won't fuck your life up either.

At this point I'm kind of convinced that power immunizes oneself against humiliation. Normally, humiliation acts as a behavioral regulator for people who step outside the bounds of reasonable social behavior, but it never works on the powerful, blindingly unaware that they've turned into clowns.
