Momentarily forgot my cardinal rule: if it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing poorly. Needing to shed some perfectionism to get a move on with one of my projects.

Sci fi is like rich chocolate to me. It’s my genre of choice, to read and to write, but I only have the stamina for a little at a time.

Some of the trouble of my insomnia is coming up with story beats and sending them to myself via text in the most cryptic way possible.

In a special project on extreme cold in prison, 27 PJP contributors in 17 states describe winter behind bars — and the small dignities that could make it more bearable.

I am reminded of Gerard F. Conway's short story "Funeral Service" (1972) in which the mind of a dead relative is implanted into a robot. The main character wants to reconcile with his dead father. Of course real connection with a simulacra is impossible.

You know how you visit another country and something costs 10,000 in their currency? That’s what happens in the US without the #penny.

I genuinely think that having unmanaged childhood OCD made me a much more developed writer than I otherwise would have been. Im starting far from the finish line because I had a narration problem, it’s a whole thing. Bc there are no do-overs for formerly sick kids, I choose to be thankful for this.

As my child-self concluded long ago, I’ll write in stolen moments.

When I was very young, already dreaming of parenthood, I knew that one day I would have both the ability and motivation to write, but would be unable to. Watching my toddler eating oatmeal with their hands and feeling content with my choices.

A healthy sense of what you don’t like can help you come to terms with your own work having its audience. Not everything is universal. The ability to make something that people with vastly different tastes can enjoy is the work of major studios, not artists.

It’s important to dislike things because they’re not to your tastes. There doesn’t have to be a reason, no sin committed by the creator or oversight in its crafting. Sometimes you just don’t like something.

I’ll be real, when someone’s in public talking on speaker I assume they need to be and move on. Some people are lonely, some people are deaf. People can be an inconvenience in my vicinity and I won’t accost them because i can handle being mildly annoyed without making it other peoples problem.
