North Devon this afternoon. Big beach, big sky.

Now that the sun is setting further south in the sky, I get a view of the sunset as well as the sunrise.

North Cliffs, Cornwall. As a Cornishman, the thing I miss the most about my beloved Kernow is the rugged beauty of the granite cliffs and the pounding Atlantic Ocean. Walks along the cliff top by the heather and the brambles, the salt-scent of the ocean and the roaring breakers below. Joy. 😊 #life

Mother Nature has some spectacular colours. Sulphur yellow lichen on a scrubby shrub on the clifftop this morning.

Not the finest picture I’ve ever taken, and I know someone will put me right if I’m wrong, but I think this little bird on the South West Coast Path in North Devon this morning was a Rock Pipit.

Garden spiders have incredibly intricate markings for such tiny creatures. Pleased to see so many of them at the allotment.

This morning’s North Devon sky is a study of jet-setting in pink! The grey bank just above the tree line is fog, tumbling down the river valley towards the sea.

Not sure I’ve ever seen a Small Copper Butterfly in the wild. Eye catching.

Soft streaky sunrise this Sunday morning.

One half of this year’s Living Room Lemon Tree harvest. What they lack in quantity, they always deliver in quality. This one sacrificed itself for a delicious lemon posset.

Paler colours to the sky this morning. At 7C, it should feel warmer than the last few days but there’s a light easterly breeze and, for September in North Devon, it feels bitterly cold out there!

It’s a good many weeks since we’ve seen the waters of Bideford Bay this calm.

As the saying goes in this part of the world: Lundy high, fine and dry Lundy low, rain and blow To be honest, when it’s wet and wild along this stretch of North Devon coast, you can’t usually see more than a few hundred metres anyway.

Unseasonably chilly in North Devon this morning at just 5*C but the clear sky overnight is going to produce a lovely sunrise.

The newly refurbished Elizabethan Gardens at Kenilworth Castle looking suitably superb for the celebration of the 450th anniversary of the visit of Queen Elizabeth I, as seen when we were there back in the summer.

Benthall Hall in Shropshire dates from 1535. Exploring inside made me wonder at all the incredible historical events it must have witnessed in its almost 500 years.

And then it did this. Fiery pre sunrise sky over North Devon.

Just before this, that dark cloud brought torrential rain. Now it has cleared, we might see a sunrise.

Unable to see it as the Blood Moon last night because we had too much cloud but it still looks beautiful this morning.

Inadvertently omitted this picture from my post about Wenlock Priory. I have a soft spot for vaulting - captivates me every time. If I remember correctly, this is from the remains of the priory church.

Not the world’s brightest rainbow but pretty nonetheless.

Wenlock Priory, Shropshire, began as an abbey - for men and women - around AD680. The buildings remaining today date from the 12/13th century and have some fabulous details.

No colourful sunrise this morning but some quite unusual streaky clouds ahead of an approaching weather front.
