Today I gave sponsor testimony before the House Insurance Committee on House Bill 289 — the Ohio Health Care Plan Act, my bill with Rep. Tristan Rader to establish universal, single-payer health care for all Ohioans.

A senior couple earning $82,800 a year could face a 236% increase in their premiums. A family of four earning $64,000 a year could face a 226% increase in their premiums. People will lose their health insurance, or It will become unaffordable. This is a life and death issue in Ohio.

Aggressive medical debt collection practices are wrecking Ohioans’ finances and leaving families who are already struggling even further behind. We need fairer rules to give people a fighting chance.

We cut the ribbon today on the new pedestrian bridge over Douglas Road! I’m proud to have delivered funding in the state capital budget for the bridge, which directly connects the University of Toledo’s engineering buildings to the rest of main campus, improving safety for pedestrians and motorists.

I spoke with WTOL 11 about the Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill, which will strip health coverage from as many as 500,000 Ohioans and raise healthcare costs for everyone. It is literally sickening.

Even after Governor DeWine’s line-item veto, this Republican budget continues to choose wealthy tax cuts & stadium subsidies over Ohio families. Ohio families will pay the price.

A lot of bad policy is out of the budget - and a lot of bad policy remains. I’m glad the governor vetoed some of the dumbest and most indefensible stuff here, but Ohio is on the wrong track.
