Book Review – Dalglish: The Fifty Matches that Made the Player by Tom Brogan – FOOTBALL BOOK REVIEWS (FBR) Tom Brogan has claimed that he has put together a comprehensive overview of 50 games in which Kenny Dalglish became, as he was known by many, the greatest player that Great Britain ever produced. The truth is he has written a lot more than that. This is a comprehensive run from Dalglish's first appearance as a Scottish schoolboy way back in 1966, right through to one of his final appearances in Liverpool's colours when player-manager against West Ham United in 1986. The 20 years in between are covered by a task which has clearly been filled with pleasure. What is most impressive is that Brogan has not just run through the usual sources – newspapers, periodicals, even Kenny Dalglish's own soccer annual, The Celtic View, and from television, his This Is Your Life appearance in 1983 - but also mined a massive amount, academic like, of sources. Included are biographies of other players, fanzines and the wide range of podcasts and other television evidence that tells the tale of an iconic player. https://footballbookreviews.com/2026/03/23/book-review-dalglish-the-fifty-matches-that-made-the-player-by-tom-brogan/
