Taken together, Trump's request calls to take funding away from housing, education, health - and sink that money into the military. The 20th century saw the US turn from a country that did nothing except war into one that helped its citizens. Trump's budget is a move back towards a worse America.

At the same time, he calls for a historic increase in defense. It would be the largest annual increase in defense funding as a percent of GDP outside of a ground war in all of US history. If you're counting ground wars, it's the largest since the early Cold War.

Trump calls for steep cuts to non-defense discretionary funding following the first year. By the 10th year, it would certainly be the lowest level since the Hoover administration. This is the part of the government that funds most things aside from Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and SNAP.
