Be a believer, believe everything You’ll be right half the time
Seeing some discourse out there about how you’ve got to give it up for Jesse Marsch or words to that effect & I’m here to tell you that fortunately, you actually don’t & you’re right not to. He’s not a good football manager & at his top dollar best he’s still a basic run good asshole. It’s a thread.

If you had any lingering doubts about the quality of Pascal Struijk, the fact that he’s going to Brighton should give you pause for thought. They’ve been ahead of us for years in no small part due to their excellent recruitment. A top player, going into his peak years is a steal at £20m.

Pascal Struijk, a true favourite from the time he first graced our U21s. Looks like a sexy pirate, sometimes played like one too. Scored some important goals, including some great penalties. Wore the armband with pride through some hard times. Knew it was coming but it doesn’t hurt any less.

I struggle to find much enthusiasm for England sides without any Leeds players involved & when you add the fact that a result for Panama would make the ridiculously nice Thomas Christiansen happy, it’s hard not to root for the underdog.

I have become something of a collector of footballing opinions that bridge the divide between differing camps of fans. It’s fascinating to me how certain things are agreed upon by stat fixated youngsters who largely came into the game via video games & older legacy fans who actually played a bit.

I have absolutely no idea why anyone chooses to be a goalkeeper, it's inarguably the most thankless role in a football team. They tend to make far fewer mistakes than outfield players but they get punished for the ones they do make virtually every time & thus are disproportionately blamed too.

Revisiting an earlier thread about Goalkeepers & the unusual way they are treated & perceived in football. Part of an informal but ongoing series about collective mania in football, spread across various platforms & subject to wild inconsistencies due to caffeine intake/debilitating ADHD.

Hard to adequately convey the disappointment regarding LUFC decision to abandon Bluesky. The owner of X is not just a racist & misogynist but his actions have done unimaginable damage to humanity. He facilitated the election of Trump & the withdrawal of USAID is equivalent to mass murder.

I am aware of the arguments that being in the PL is in fact Very Bad & in fairness some of them are legit but getting top tier Adidas shirts plus the recent progress on the ground redevelopment etc seems like fair recompense for collectively enduring the horrors of the Bates/GFH/Cellino era.

Perhaps testament to the extraordinary career of James Milner is that his retirement aged 40 still seems about ten years premature. Disappointed that we didn’t get to bookend his career but I wish him all the best in whatever comes next. A fantastic footballer & a terrific man too.

For me this is the most significant part of Paraag Marathe’s statement & to be honest, I’m quite relieved to hear someone senior at the club saying it too. Fully expect next season & the one after to be a real battle & I don’t want to see any complacency about this from within the club.

Have to expect a bit of life from these West Ham players, they’ll all be looking at the likes of James Justin & Jayden Bogle & praying we might see enough in any of them today to save them from EFL football.

Aye let’s also replay every match before the offside rule and the back-pass rule because that’s how it works when rules are introduced. Any tiny thimble of sympathy I had for them is totally evaporated now.

This is such a comical overreaction to something actually quite trivial & let me tell you I am here for it. Happy for our B-Team or Bill Ayling to be promoted & although I’ve got nowt against Saints they did ruin my day out at Wembley.

Two solid draws on the road since this post but much to my chagrin we’ve also banked two completely unnecessary wins. Just goes to show that greed is omnipresent at the top of English football. A sad state of affairs but hopefully we can grind out one more draw on the last day of the season.

For much of the season we’ve been understandably targeting at least 1ppg but in the last six matches we’ve hit 2.33ppg. Given that two of those matches were injury blighted dead rubbers after we’d achieved mathematical safety it’s all the more remarkable.

At the point now where I’ve nearly run out of plaudits for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has been absolutely sensational this season. Now has as many goals as any other English player in the PL & has also scored in his last three games. Surely they have to consider him for the England WC squad.

Watching West Ham’s leaky back five in action after seeing our makeshift defence holding out against a determined & skilful opponent to secure 3 points that we didn’t even really need just shows the difference between the two sides & why they’re going to finish considerably lower than us.

Unbelievable. Down to bare bones against one of the form teams with a massive incentive to get a result & digging out yet another big win, despite being safe two games ago. Just goes to show this team doesn’t know the meaning of ‘on the beach’. Bijol my MOTM but give it up for Calvert-Lewin.

To get to the next stage in terms of where we want to be you have to look at admittedly smaller clubs like Brentford & Brighton who have managed to become settled PL teams under several different managers because they’re very well run from top to bottom. It’s not about any individual.

Does James Maddison know that football matches are filmed & that the larger public can see said footage? I feel like this is crucial information for a professional footballer & perhaps an ostensibly functioning adult in the year 2026 also?

Spurs lucky to get a point tonight & it’s almost entirely down to two good stops by Kinsky, which may yet keep them up. Obviously they’ve got injuries but we’re missing key players too. Ultimately I’ll still take a point on the road but the hosts have got to be relieved to get owt from that.

I almost want to go & read the presumably fascinating discourse on how you could not give that as a penalty & continue being a Referee afterwards. That was like one of those ‘You are the Ref’ Paul Trevillion comics where they’ve let their imagination get away from them.

Terrific effort by everyone at the club to keep us up. The players, the coaching staff & the owners all deserve credit but in particular the recruitment team & medical staff have done an extraordinary job in difficult circumstances. More hard work to be done this summer, we can’t stagnate.

Had the wonderful good fortune of catching an exhibition about the late Greek composer Jani Christou here in Athens today, unbelievable. He clearly had Bielsa brain in the best way. The text on the here reads - “With no let up whatsoever, the furious activity must be sustained.”

It’s completely okay to have opinions - even very silly ones - about your football club. Likewise entirely fine to make wild predictions, backtrack on them, think one thing & then another. Football fandom is a ridiculous pursuit & although a compelling diversion, it’s not really that serious.

That DCL goal contribution in four frames. Look where he wins it, how quickly he’s through their lines, how long he holds it up & then the space he creates for Bogle. So good.

That’s the win that puts it beyond doubt & despite it not being a vintage display, three good goals & a commanding performance makes it a very good night under the lights at Elland Road. Delighted for all the players & staff, they’ve kept at it all season & deserve to retain their PL status.

A few minutes that define the brilliance of Dominic Calvert-Lewin as a forward. First one is from nowt, he just holds it up & injects a bit of magic at the right time, second one is all about his strength & poaching instinct. Honestly might be our Player of the Season.

Truly dreadful Referee, comes across as a sociopathic narcissist of the worst kind. Absolutely incapable of doing his job in a competent manner & shouldn’t be anywhere near the Premier League, let alone officiating yet another match of consequence.

Just about worth the lead, though we’ve not been scintillating. Have to think we can win this if the Ref doesn’t decide to make it all about him, which is a very valid concern with this bloke. You’d assume one more goal settles it, just need to be patient & see if they commit more men forward.

Seeing some spicy takes out there after a narrow loss essentially away from home against a squad that is the result of billions of pounds of investment - not to mention some outright cheating - & have been one of the most successful sides in recent years. Shows how far we've come overall.

Bad news for Ilia Gruev, ultimately a decent servant for us with a promotion & what looks like PL survival under his belt in his two seasons. Last year of his contract so we'll just have to brace ourselves to reluctantly accept an extraordinarily generous bid from Rangers FC this summer.
