I’m trying
Back teaching with the
@carpentries.carpentries.org
for the first time in a long time! Love getting back to adult professional learners after 5 years of undergrad. This is with field researchers, so I wore my butterfly skirt, which is in great company today. Everyone has their favorite critter out!

I went to brush my teeth and my kid put on 15 shirts. Which took apparently 20 minutes to take off.

Currently testing the limits on what leather conditioner can do for this Traveler’s Notebook I adopted for a fair price on Mercari. These patches are like super glued on.

Advantage of a floofy tule skirt on a rainy day: you can get inside and shake off like a wet dog.

Fuck it I’m flushing this pen out. Let’s just not speak of the 3ml of ink that just dripped out of it.

Doing great. Why do I do this. Why do I like this. Fountain pens are a wild ride. (I think I have this fixed)

Of course I insisted of using the leaking fountain pen today. Of course it had red ink in it. And then I sided maybe I should stop before my lunch with a colleague and it looked like I punched someone through the heart.

I appreciate how involved kid is about packing his own lunch, but I wasn’t expecting to negotiate about quarts of jello and cook a frozen pizza at 8am.

Kiddo sniffed in the car and said “this is some 2024 air” and I think he’s pregaming the slang five years from now

Finished reading Alchemised. Interesting. Dark. Very dark. The content warnings a) should have been at the beginning (matters when audiobook) and b) muuuuuch clearer about what was explicit that happened on the page. Poorly done. Enjoyable is a difficult word for this book but I’m glad I read it.

Catching up on the 5 year diary. I review my daily journal for little entries. Hard to be editorial when I sort of expect my kid might read it at some point when they’re older. But a fun process.

Helping out fountain pen newbies and pulled out some of my Kakunos. Most of these are dedicated to specific asshole inks.

Quick flip through my teaching content journal prepped for 2026. If only it could give me the bravery to write a teaching statement.

Kid and I are deeply over each other and ready for school to start back tomorrow. He would never admit to it, of course. Also the hat I just finished knitting is too big and I’ll need to frog it. Boooo

Got some yarn for Christmas! Haven’t kitten in a year and I’ve been itching to. Knitted a little too close to the yarn chicken sun and had to tie on scraps to bind off at the end. But I’ve needed new mittens!

Got dumped by my house cleaner for being a landlord and they jar a zero tolerance policy about working for landlords. Which I respect and was open about it. But frustrating because I never intended to be one and the $700 a year profit I make is all spent in mutual aid stuff.

Kid is sick and didn’t sleep. So I didn’t sleep. Taught this morning. Then had to sit in a classroom where I’m too fat to fit into any of the chairs comfortably. Also the town is like sold out of Covid tests. But a year of the snake charm came in the mail today.
