Should the quilted flag be upside down? I havenβt adhered the letters yet, I could turn it around to indicate that my country is in distress but the letters do fit nicely this way

Looking at men's shirts in the thrift store yesterday. A nearby teen boy (13?) was loudly begging his mom to buy him dress shoes. He asks my opinion, saying "my mom says they'll make me look gay." I look him in the eye and say, "What's wrong with looking gay?" Mom quickly says "nothing."

I spent the last few days hustling to get "enough" done on a project to take credible photos & enter it in a big art show. I hit the submit button just now. And then I read the juror's bio and thought "I ain't got a prayer of getting in." Maybe I'll stop doing this to myself eventually. π«€

I'm realizing that I probably need to rip out 2 days of embroidery on my current piece. Ugh. But I'm proud of myself for considering what's best for the piece instead of ignoring the problem.

It's economic blackout day here in the States - and a big snowstorm here in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. π€·ββοΈ I am planning to play with my sock project (thanks
@russellbarratt.bsky.social
for the Quilty Nook workshop), read a novel later, and hope the electricity stays on.

This morning I sewed a small stuffed heart for a friend. Hand-dyed green linen on one side, thrifted yellow cotton shirt on the other. I hope it'll give her comfort during a difficult trip. It feels very important to show care & love right now.

A close friend is flying to see her dying brother next week. I'd like to make her something pocket-sized to bring her comfort during the trip (her health is fragile, and she's overwhelmed). Maybe an embroidered heart or stuffie, a tiny quilt, or ? Suggestions?

A wonderful example of what can be made with the fabric that already exists in the world. I understand that some people have chemical sensitivities that preclude their reusing fabric in quilts, but more of us could be harvesting what's around us.

Dear
#quiltsky
, don't panic if your JoAnn's is closing. Get eco-friendly! Use fabric from garments & linens, like our quilting ancestors. Try rescuers like
@swansonsfabrics.bsky.social
. Check out thrift stores and yard sales. Organize a swap. We are swimming in fabric - keep it out of landfills.

I've wanted a fabric painting session for weeks, and I made it happen this afternoon. Messy, abstract mark-making is my jam. I suspect I'll cut it up for a quilt or embroidery project eventually.
