If you feel overwhelmed about what to do today and in the coming years, a suggestion: Commit to doing one helpful thing for yourself and one helpful thing for others every day. Some days you’ll be able to many big, grand things, and some days the things will be tiny. And they all matter.

Feeling very small and sad about David Lynch leaving. Death seems so mundane for him to experience. The way he saw the world changed how I see the world. I’m glad he left so much weird beauty for me to revisit and cherish. I don’t know what else to say.

Practicing figuring out who I am outside of what I do for work. 😬 I’ve submitted a short story for a local reading! Even if it doesn’t get chosen for the reading, submitting it built enough momentum for me to start working on another draft.

Today I was grateful to have been trained on how to help someone having a seizure until the paramedics arrived. I recommend the Seizure First Aid Ready courses from the Epilepsy Foundation. Let’s take care of each other.

Grateful for this wee face at the end of a long, sad workweek.

Friends of Trees and a whole bunch of volunteers planted Ponderosa pines, oaks, and others behind the library this morning. 🌲 We’re turning this empty field into a climate-tolerant forest for our community to enjoy for generations to come!

Yesterday, when I dropped off my Hobonichi Five-Year Techo to return it for a usable one, the person at the shipping place commented on the defective paper. A pen friend in the wild! 🖋️🥰 We spent a moment geeking out over pens and paper together. Made my whole morning.

Playing “The Quiet Year” with loved ones was so therapeutic tonight. It’s a brilliant game, one of my very favorites. I recommend playing it if you are at all anxious about the year ahead.

My simplified system for tracking films I want to see: Once I watch the trailer, I use the Copy to Workflowy Inline Linking Firefox add-on and add it to my “Films to See” list. It embeds the video right in my list! I sure do love Workflowy.

Finished reading: Why We Can’t Sleep: Women’s New Midlife Crisis by Ada Calhoun 📚 Generational labels and gender labels generally irritate me, but I appreciated the author’s research into the cultural and political contexts impacting middle-aged Gen X women right now.
