I’ve entered a new layer of hell as I am now getting emails from companies asking me to rep pet memorial services and products! I’m not an influencer, and truly can’t think of something more tacky than reaching out a month after my own pet’s passing We’ve monetized loss and I’m just grossed out

Truly I mean no harm in saying this, but the amount of people who ask me if my prints are original pieces (and yes, they mean like are actual paintings I hand painted in each cello bag wrapped offering) when I table is really hard to navigate because people get so sad when I say they are just prints

Told a cashier “I’m alright!” when asked how I was doing (pretty upbeat sounding at that) and the woman who just finished buying her groceries ahead of me whipped around and said “Not fantastic?” And I said not today, to which she loudly proclaimed “Well, I’m doing fantastic!”

After a semester of teaching again I realized the thing that holds a lot of artists back is the fear of reaching out or applying to a job again in the future if you were at first turned down or had no reply So much is learned in trying again. I’d have no work if I reached out to art directors once

I’m considering working on reopening/revamping my Patreon now that I have a bit more time in my life I’ll likely have to offer a simpler version than I had in the past But what do you all think you’d want to see/get within a new model? Process? Prints? Industry advice? Something else?

Getting testy in the replies to influencer type outreach lately (this was to rep pet products) If I had money from each other these I have to respond to I’d have at least enough to fuel my weekly coffee habit

I keep getting work making illustrative work for science articles. I don’t think I would have been excited about that in art school, but settling into editorial work and realizing that comics or concept art isn’t what I was ever meant to do back in 2016 was good I love drawing science things

Got bamboozled by the internet and bought the ugliest rug I’ve ever seen and am literally cry laughing at it

Getting my feedback from this past semester of teaching really warmed my heart. I can't wait to jump back in next semester with my two courses and do the three things I love most within education: teach personal style, how to make a multi-facited career post-grad, and how to be kinder to yourself

After I finally got in my last test result (a-okay heart, kidneys, metabolic system, thyroid, and nutrition levels), I also learned that my parent's cancer was successfully removed and hadn't spread. So with that and the chance of my roommate getting a cat this weekend, everything feels a lot better

I put off posting this for a while, but now that it seems okay: I had to go to the ER suddenly last week until nearly midnight on that day and had a whole ton of tests. So many blood tests to X-rays and EKGs Ultimately everything came back normal, but the docs agree: I'm very stressed out

Emotionally bracing for the amount of people who will ask if my art is AI when I’m tabling I don’t think they are doing this maliciously, I don’t think that my art looks like AI, but it will happen all the same and it is deeply sad that people have to check (though totally understandable)

Thank you for all of the condolences regarding Seti‘s passing. The outreach has been so heartening. He clearly touched a lot of lives, whether he met people in real life or not and whether I knew someone in real life or not Please know that all comments have been seen and appreciated🧡

I had to let go of Seti last week. He was surrounded by love and care until his final breath He was born in spring, and he returned to it. I picked a sunny day because I thought that he would like that best. His favorite thing in the world besides food and attention was to lay in the sun

Having my last week of teaching and needing to turn in grades, doing my first tabling event of the season, having editorial work to jump back into, and wrapping up a group gallery show set of pieces all at the same time my cat is so sick has been truly terrible timing

Final update for now: he’s home, he is weirdly happy. They said it could pass on its own, it may have already been when we went in. Wish his medical dramas were a little less dramatic The torture really came from seeing an exceptionally happy cat in so much pain, so if he feels good then I’m good

God on the way home from taking my cat to the vet I stopped in a grocery store to grab a snack and a man asked what my ethnicity was, where I was from, and complimented my outfit because it “showed off my curves” (it is a track suit btw) I ran off and he chased me outside to ask me out

I am about to start my last week of the semester. This return to teaching after being away for a few years has been hectic, and rewarding! Lots of quick changes as things ebbed and flowed and lots of amazing work made by students. It has been a joy and I look forward to returning in the Fall🧡

Okay my mom being cancer free for the moment is great! But now I have to dive back into my last week of teaching, grading after that, work on my gallery pieces, do a long form editorial job, and start tabling the literal day after my last day of school My husk of a body will rest in June I guess!
