Update: Good news was it wasn't WORSE but it was only better by literal .4 and .6th differences. New regimen for fluids + supplement meds to help her feel better and then we check back in a month! She's at least /choosing/ to eat now and not having to be begged to just even lick the plate which is !

Getting Penelope her follow up checkup and bloodwork for her kidney disease and how far along she is/what to expect today. Being realistic about it but it's hard to not have that bit of hope for her.🤞 This week of upped meds + fluids has helped TONS but we're still just anxious about it.

Yesterday was not great :,) Lost one of the colony cats (Ghost, my beloved) to the road 💔 Had some real end of life "when" talks about Penelope and Nick. Tbd Monday. The day to day is rough and im tired. Hops made us a nice dinner though and then we just had some horse time which was nice.

Learning a lot about myself and how I've been perceived lately. I usually don't think too much about how others think about me (everyone's entitled to their own opinions!) But by trying to not be a bother, not be a burden, not be annoying is making me come across even more negatively in other ways-

it sucks when every good and hopeful flicker has such a hard reality check to it i know it just means we're closer to time than i thought we would be, a lot faster than we would be but at least we can't say we didn't try

Ten year ago throwback to when we were given a litter of possums to rehabilitate/release by a fireman friend of ours who had been called out to get them off of this lady's porch. Mama poss had been hit but thankfully the babies weren't in extreme infancy stage! (It was a successful re-release 🙏)

Yesterday in cats: Ghost has returned to the colony, she was missed by Taquito (a tuxedo mama) and Mousey, who was thrilled to throw down with her again. Set up the laundry room as the geriatric ward (Nick's choice), because it gets amazing sun in the afternoon. Penelope is eating again. 😭💕

Busy weekend but finally got some little projects done. Lil firepit and grass seed in the yard. Moved our chickens to give them and the goats a heap more space. Happy to finally be upgrading everyone a bit finally. Hops' grape is already producing! And Ghost has been recovering well. 🙏

No news from the vets about Ghost, but that's a good thing as they v much run on the no news, good news. Getting her a place set up for recovery in the guest bathroom. In the meantime: Beloved Penelope <3

Had a musing about this w/ Hops last night and realized it's a lot less "we have unique cases" and more of a "We live in a rural area, people don't notice these symptoms until it's too late" OR "I never take my cat to the vet, it isn't a dog (or a horse)"

Surgery set for thursday morning - she's in good spirits and is being sweet at the clinic, which is huge considering she's mostly unhandled!

Just got back from dropping Ghost off at the vet. She has pyometra 🫠 Glad we caught it before it got to critical and "glad" it happened to one of my more friendly colony cats so I could get her rushed in!

Someone's dog got into our rabbit hutch room and killed one of our (favorite) does. Absolutely ripped and smashed her cage apart. The others are, thankfully, fine. Woke up at 2:30 to it excitedly barking out there but the bastard ran off before we were able to get to it (my fault).
