Crested Grebes are the supermodels of my local birding scene. Stunningly beautiful, gorgeously aloof, and with an unfailing knack of casually pausing in just that bit of perfect lighting. #birds #birdphotography

In Djilba (sort of Spring to the Nyoongar people) the Crested Grebes return to the lake. And they dance. And they give each other gifts (pond weed). And eventually they will have little babies that ride on their backs and eat feathers. #birds #birdphotography

These are Pink Eared Ducks and they do this fascinating thing called vortex feeding. The bonded pair swim in a spiral - with their heads at the centre - often maintaining eye contact. It's as romantic as waltzing. #birds #birdphotography

Always a privilege to photograph an endangered bird. This is a hooded plover - and there was ONE tiny little bird on a stretch of isolated beach that ran for about 3 km. Big lens and crop sensor camera meant I could get "close ups" without disturbing its feeding. #birds #birdphotography
