Temps in the mid 30s feels like a heat wave today! Everyone is soaking up the sunshine and enjoying themselves 🩵 Phoenix Rose and her pals are all lounging in comfort, having dragged straw outside for prime napping spots.

Winter vibes at Hog Haven 🩵 Just two short years ago, Lodi was recovering from aspiration pneumonia and spending her piglet days in an oxygen chamber. We’re so glad she made a full recovery, and is healthy and thriving now.

Happy 11th birthday to two (unrelated) special gals: Lucy and Truffle! Both came to HHF in 2015, and have thrived in the care of sanctuary, in the company of lots of other pig friends.

Today was brutal, with high winds and low temps, and light snow blowing about. But Steve and all of the pigs are staying toasty warm! Straw is the best material for pigs’ bedding, as it retains their body heat and not much moisture. And they love making nests in it!

This is why we can’t have nice things 😂 When the weather is nice during the winter, pigs love to drag their bedding outside for prime nap spots in the sunshine. Barbossa and his friends are some of the biggest culprits, always wanting to lounge in max comfort!

Horace was really excited for fresh straw in his barn this afternoon—his smile says it all! We are ready for the temps to plummet, starting tonight, and we’ll sleep well knowing every pig is staying very cozy 🩵

Cold days don’t stop Pickle from smiling 😍 It was a beautiful week, but winter is coming back full force this weekend. Tomorrow will be spent replenishing straw to keep everyone warm.

When it’s 65° in February, pigs take full advantage of sunbathing 🩵 Hamlet is our eldest pig, at 19; he still enjoys outdoor activities, even though he lives the bougie house pig life now.

Olive is enjoying time out of her pen to root and explore today. Rooting is an important, natural piggy behavior that provides mental stimulation, and makes for very happy piggies 🩵

Meet our “main pen,” home to 17 different piggies, all rescued! Many of these pigs have lived at our sanctuary for 8+ years, enjoying the best care we can provide. It’s a snowy day but the pigs don’t mind coming outside for meals, water and potty breaks.

Today was beautiful, the start of a nice week and much needed warmer temps (in the 40s, ha ha). Steve enjoyed munching on ice in the sunshine this afternoon, while everyone else was super active enjoying the nicer weather. Only 53 more days until spring!

Posing after being knocked down by Horace 😂 It’s been really icy and really cold, but the pigs are troopers and doing well. Temps are supposed to improve this week, which means straw will be pulled outside for optimal sunbathing!

HHF is home to a handful of rescued cats as well as pigs, donkeys, a sheep and a goat. Living rurally, we constantly find feral cats on the property and trap them for TNR as much as we can. Mango, Gomez, and Morticia are all ferals we saved who live the cushy life in the house.

Falstaff’s favorite time of year is here. Just look at that big smile! Of all the pigs living at HHF, Falstaff is one of a few who truly enjoys romping around in the snow. He even takes naps in it! This handsome boy is a Hungarian breed called a Mangalica & has a wooly coat that resembles a sheep.

Eight years ago today, we rescued Mac Attack. He was 14 weeks old and had a larger than life personality! He’s now over 650lbs and the happiest guy. Pigs are friends, not food 🩵

Our sweet big boy, Henry, passed away unexpectedly yesterday morning, just shy of 9 years old. He was nearly 800lbs and one of the goodest boys who will be deeply missed. Help us honor his memory by leaving animals off of your plate. 🥺🌈🩵

Big pigs and little pigs can coexist just fine together 🩵 Henry had to be separated from his other big friends when he got sick last month, and he’s formed a really strong bond with Florence, Ruth and Primrose. Big or small, we love them all!

Primrose Eversqueal is a lucky babe living in sanctuary. She came to HHF at only 5 days old, not nursing properly and not thriving. She was given a second chance in our care, and boy did she thrive! Now 4 years old, this little lady is a light in our lives.

Happiness is being tucked into bed with a fresh bale of straw! Henry is one of our largest residents, weighing just shy of 800lbs. After battling an upper respiratory infection for a few weeks, we make sure he has lots of cozy bedding each night.

Destined for slaughter, Lodi was spared as a piglet because she was ill. She found her way to Hog Haven at a month old, and spent over a month on oxygen and antibiotics to get well. Now she’s a thriving, sassy 2 year old living her best life in sanctuary! Happy birthday, Lodi.

Double trouble waiting for dinner today. Peanut and Baron get fed separately from their friends, as they need more food and their friends don’t share. Each pig gets exactly what they need at Hog Haven ❤️

Did you know that mini pigs have a lifespan of 15-20 years? More than 50% of our rescued pigs are older than 10, with our two eldest pigs being 19. Hamlet has a few health concerns, so he’s visiting the vet clinic later today for a wellness check.

Spreading joy with a #therapypig visit today. We visit adults with cognitive & memory impairment once a month, rotating which trained pig pal we bring. Today’s pick was Lucy!

The temps are going to be in the mid teens overnight, so we replenished straw to keep everyone cozy. Seems like Davy Jones approves!

Today, we celebrate Louisa!This pretty gal jumped off of a semi truck on the highway, headed to slaughter at only 6 months old, and saved her own life. Louisa is 4 years old today, and it’s been an honor providing a safe, happy home for her in sanctuary. #friendsnotfood
