This person was taking souvenir portraits of people and then immediately printed them on a retro-looking newspaper front page. She had an antique-y looking camera which was connected wirelessly to a battery-powered printer in a large box beside her. She was doing good business!

Parc Mont Royal's Olmsted Road has a different vibe when you leave the tourist hordes behind as you turn left to go to the summit and everyone else turns right to go to the chalet. After we do the summit loop we go to the lookout. It is the best part of the Olmsted Road Experience.™️🤣

I didn't do the Camillien Houde climb since a long time bc the road was so crappy but I guess that excuse doesn't hold water any longer.

Sometimes going uphill you'll hear a runner's footsteps catching up... This guy caught and pass me. I passed him on the flats at the stairs, then when it climbed again he passed me and beat me to Beaver Lake. So that happened.

Went to the Mont Royal lookout today. Air was clear & view was B+, the Montérégiennes hills (collines Montérégiennes) were very visible. (A+ view means Vermont mountians are super clear) That's Mont St-Bruno on the left & Mont Saint-Hilaire on the right. The Richelieu river flows between them.

Summit of Mont Royal (elevation 233 metres) is now fortified. It's not an improvement. It was never a scenic place, but previously you could at least go across the summit up one side and down the other, and now it's a dead end. Corporations privatizing public spaces: #234 in a series.

Camillien Houde road is fully repaved now. It was in very terrible condition before. Very, very terrible. Now it's omg omg omg omg omg omg omg! 😍😍😍😍😍 Thanks Mayor MF!

The Route Verte bike path as it goes through Carignan was recently relocated 100 metres south on this all-new 3.5 km section (the old route was in wrong place bc of a new school). The trail is smooth, very green and tree-lined, and the parks have signs and tell you that water is available 😍 there. 👍

We had many opportunities over the 30 km x 2 ride to refill the water bottle (it was a hot day!) and usually the fountains were visible at park entrances etc and easy to find. But this one at the Chambly Canal locks (ecluses) it was more than a bit hidden. It is an excellent fountain, just hidden.

Kayakers are synchronized, but the person in the back's ergonomics didn't seem optimal. Still going to be fun to be out on the water on a perfect summer day. Biking to Chambly we just enjoy the scenery, but the kayak/SUP rental place is also right there! Maybe next time I'll get on the water.👍🛶

Met some bike camping guys at the traffic lights in Longueuil. "Ou va tu?" I asked. They were headed to camp in Parc National les Iles de Boucherville (Boucherville islands national park) that can only be reached by bike via a river ferry (no road access for bikes) from Boucherville or Mtl.

And where is Montéregie region of southern Québec?

A nice flat-land short/medium/long bike ride is just east of Montreal on rural bike paths in Montéregie. 3 bike paths can be done either out and back on one of them or they can be combined into a longer loop ride. You can start in Chambly (or Montreal!) It could be a 2 or 3 day ride if you want.

Montéregie Bike Path Map The half-built and now abandoned Ormstown-Howick bike path is now identified as "proposed route." It was half built but money ran out + lawsuits by haters, and the surface has since been destroyed by quads racing on it. Pave this bike path svp MRC Haut-Saint-Laurent.

May I note here that the Quebec government recently updated all its flood maps and the update added many, many low-lying residential areas and these same people fought to get their neighbourhoods removed from the flood area map bc it would mean their home insurance costs would increase. 🤔

once you cross the train tracks the Route Verte follows this power-line corridor. Asphalt's good quality, the space is green and verdant, it's nice. Zigzagging through suburban streets is over, now we've left the urban zone behind and soon(ish) there will be trees and forests!

This is the 3rd version of Route Verte crossing Jacques-Cartier in Longueuil. The 1st one was either a big detour or jaywalking through traffic. The 2nd was a marked crossing, but then one car stopped & the car in the next lane didn't and killed someone. This one is at a light. It's finally safe.👈

When riding the P'Tit Train du Nord through Val-David, stopping at the 1001 Pots ceramic exposition/fair is a good side-trip. It's only a few 100 metres from the bike path. It began 37 years ago, and it's back for another summer. Lots of choice: 120 ceramicists have their work on sale here. 👍 👍 👍
