Couple of things about last night’s Nuggets game: - Jokic/Gordon shot 21/34 (61.7 percent). The rest of the team shot 22/67 (32.8 percent) Amazing that when the team shoots 43/101, they can STILL get to 122 points. And adapt to the situation.

How in the world this wasn’t a foul — even before he got the ball — is beyond me. Still, the Nuggets didn’t execute well in the fourth and put themselves in a situation where this missed call was very impactful in the loss to Portland. A busy week next week with 4 games in 6 days, beginning Monday.

I have to say, even though the Nuggets have scored at least 122 points in every game this season, I’ve been as impressed with their defensive improvement and buy-in as the offense. Except for a few-minute span at the end of the 2nd quarter tonight, the Nuggets locked down New Orleans.

And, ho hum, Nikola Jokic with ANOTHER triple double: 25 points (on 9/10 shooting) with 19 rebounds and 10 assists. He’s simply a living legend.

Also essential to the victory was the play of Tim Hardaway Jr. He was brilliant with 20 points off the bench, including 4 3-pointers, and played his typical solid defense as well.

Jamal Murray wants to be an All-Star, and he’s no doubt having an All-Star start to this season. Dominated tonight with 43 points on 16/29 shooting. He had 23 points in the 3rd, 32 in the second half overall, and the Nuggets walked out of Minnesota with a 127-114 win. #NuggetsSky

The Minnesota Timberwolves say star guard Anthony Edwards will be re-evaluated in a week after an MRI revealed a right hamstring strain. This means the Nuggets will not face him tonight when they take on the Timberwolves in Minnesota. #NuggetsSky

We’re starting to see more of this type of multiple-effort, great defense out of the Nuggets. They are remaking themselves on this side of the court and there are some good early returns as they look to be more consistent and disruptive. Love this opening night matchup tonight for the Nuggets. Golden State was a transformed team after acquiring Jimmy Butler at the trade deadline, going 23-7 to end the season. And the addition of Al Horford this season has them highly regarded. Just a great test to kick things off. #NuggetsSky

Not hyperbole here: That might have been the best half of preseason basketball I've ever seen. This Nuggets team has so many ways to score, it's amazing. I will also say the Clippers are definitely legit with all of their new additions as well.

The press conference portion of Nuggets Media Day lasted 3 hours this morning. Here are the things that resonated with me most. A) Nikola Jokic reaffirming his commitment to the Nuggets, saying “My plan is to be with the Nuggets forever,” when asked about a contract extension after the season.

Nuggets fans, now that we've had a few days to digest the new roster -- which hopefully will continue to include Jonas Valanciunas -- how are we feeling about the team and its chances to get back to the Finals? #NuggetsSky

So, what the Nuggets have done most today is they got deeper with Bruce Brown coming back, and they got markedly better defensively with the Brown and Cam Johnson additions. Now they are starting to profile similarly to the Nuggets team that won the title. Expectations for this team should be high.

It's good to see so many of these really good SEC players get drafted here in the 2nd round. That conference was amazing last season, and, by and large, played a style that translates to the NBA. I expect them to thrive.

Mildly surprised Michigan's Danny Wolf remains out there...

Been impressed with Utah's draft. Houston as well, and we'll see with Phoenix, which acquired a lot of size tonight. Low key, Brooklyn has had an interesting draft.

Love that pick for Charlotte. They missed out on Dalton Knecht when that trade fell through. Now they get the elite shooting they desperately need.

It’s too bad the Nuggets don’t have a pick in this draft because there are a lot of interesting players in it. You definitely don’t have to have a top 5 pick to get a player that can help, and in some cases, help quickly.

But this night is for OKC. What a team. They started as the favorites and fulfilled it. And with the KD trade to Houston, the West continues to be a total minefield. I absolutely love the space the NBA is in, and the sport of basketball in general. The sport, and its future has never been better.

And yet the league will have to grapple with the fact that so many significant players went down to injuries throughout the playoffs, and think about how compact these series are in the early rounds.

The reality of the situation in the Eastern Conference is that given the situation Boston is in, down its best player & financial questions all over the place, and Indiana's rise to the NBA Finals, the East looks as wide open as it's ever been. Teams feel like they can make an Indy-style run.

Ditto that for Lu Dort's 3-point shooting. .. And he's still the only player I've seen go through defensive drills in pregame warmups, along with offensive stuff.

Obi Toppin's growth offensively since college has been just amazing to see. His bag is so much more diverse and consistently effective now. Love it.
