The Irish Stammering Association online adult support group is back next week on Tuesday 2nd September at 7.30pm ✨ Our adult support group is a friendly and welcoming space to share experiences, listen, and connect with others who stammer. /1

It’s easy to ask about someone’s favourite ice-cream flavour 🍦 Why not do the same with stammering? 👉 If you stammer, try sharing what feels most helpful for you. 👉 If you don’t, take time to gently ask and listen. Everyone is different so it helps to talk about it if you feel comfortable. /1

ISAYiT! Summer Camp #Day3 🎨✍️ We found inspiration from the fabulous artists in the stammering community for our creative projects. Art speaks across ages, places, and experiences so we love exploring stammering art to see how it resonates with our young people. /1

ISAYiT! Summer Camp #Day2 ✨ We read extracts from the book 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘰𝘺 𝘞𝘩𝘰 𝘔𝘢𝘥𝘦 𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘓𝘢𝘶𝘨𝘩 by Helen Rutter. In the story, Billy, who stammers, describes four kinds of listeners: Helpers, Mindreaders, Jokers, and Waiters. /1

🌿 ISAYiT! Summer Camp #Day1 We made our ‘About Me Mobiles’ using willow, string and creativity! 🧵 We created 18 mobiles - each one different and completely unique. One thing connected each of them: the shared experience of stammering. /1

🌿 What does willow have to do with ISA? Penny, our Youth Officer, prepared for the ISAYiT! Summer Camp by cutting willow from her garden. We’ll use it in a creative activity called 𝘈𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘔𝘦 𝘔𝘰𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘴 — a way for our campers to reflect on the different parts of who they are. /1

Thank you to Dr Eric S. Jackson for an insightful and informative presentation at our recent Speaker Series. Eric shared his research on the factors that influence the variability of stuttering. This resonated with the group as the variability of stammering is familiar to many in the community. /1

The Irish Stammering Association joins many other organisations supporting the open letter calling for a review of the decision to exclude a short film about stammering in the European Film Festival ‘Integration You and Me’ in Poland. /1

📣 ISA made a submission to the public consultation on the draft Leaving Cert English specification, which includes plans for 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗺. This is a major change, and it is essential that the voices of people who stammer are part of the conversation. /1
