One of my favorite birds ( the Chipping Sparrow) all fluffed up against the sleet this morning.

Top from 4weeks ago, mid taken today same spot. The last also today in our garden. Snow in the city goes black with pollution whereas in our garden ( city versus rural) stays clean. I assess it is much healthier living rurally than in the city. (Photos have not been edited. )

Finished these mid-size spoons in Walnut. They have a good sized bowl so would be good serving spoons for your next dinner party.

The fact that one can ( legally) bet on war - the killing of people, is very telling on our society and our cavalier attitude to death.

A few midsize to small handcarved spoons finished the oast few days. Walnut and Cherry. The cawl shaped spoons finished has some lovely tiger stripes.

Similar opposites. Sounds Irish but that’s my ancestry 😂. Hand-carved in Cherry from our property and these cooking spoons will suit left or right handed folk.

These are mid-size spoons probably useful for cooking sauce or something shallow. Carved in Maple, English Beech (from a broken chair) and Sapele.

It is the day of love after all. Hand carved from many different woods. Happy Valentine’s Day folk.

Carved a pair of salad servers in Walnut. First salad servers for a while.

Challenging the traditional American choc-chip cookies with these. Apricot and candied ginger chunks cookies. Absolutely delicious.

Carved a few eating spoons in Maple, walnut and Sapele. These have quite shallow bowls to give a good mouthfeel compared to my usual cooking spoons.

These holy ( Sunday 😎😂) spoons are in Cherry and Walnut. Haven’t made any of these for a while.

Three very different spoons just carved. Cherry, Spalted Maple and Maple. The Maple bowl I ( foolishly but deliberately) planned the knot in the center. Very tough and tricky to carve but I am pleased with the result

I have no idea what this double-ended spoon may be used for but it was fun carving from some very dry Walnut.

I put out some seed on a stump for the birds that prefer a more open feeding - mainly for the Juncos. It’s about 3 feet. Now that the snow is similarly deep another happy customer can access this and comes for the leftovers at night. As you can see he left his calling card.

Had the Carolina Wren visit very briefly this morning. First one I’ve seen this year.

A selection of hearts fresh from my knife. Aromatic Cedar. The bottom right one indicative of our feelings having just learnt of the sad passing of a dear friend. 🥲

The Spurtle. A traditional Scottish cooking paddle in use since the 15th century. Mostly used for cooking porridge but quickly becomes the most popular wooden tool for soups, stews - spreading and flipping. Subtle curves allow access into all spots of your pot or pan. All handcarved.

Serious question - since we now live in a world without checks and balances, do we really need a congress/house? Is there any point in this obviously expensive administration?

A few of the popular hearts to add back into my inventory. Aromatic Cedar, Olive and Tiger Maple.

These are the last traditional type spoons I am carving for a little while as I am working on a new product which may well add to my range of cookware. These are all in Maple.

Really poor visibility in BOS - seen several go- arounds already.

My view sitting at Dunkin Donuts in Boston. It’s minus 15C outside so difficult to wait in my car. Watching the SA T20 cricket with my coffee. Got a 5 hour wait so it’s not worth going home - 5 hours there and back. My view reminds me of Denmark.

Nice walk on Seaver pond before more snow comes in this afternoon and tonight.

Finished these guys in Maple to start my 2026 inventory.

This makes me happy. Been roughing out some spoons in Maple to replace my seriously depleted stock.

Started carving a few Spurtles. This is a traditional Scottish cooking implement and I can see this being a fantastic tool in the kitchen and has several advantages over a spoon.

Finished carving all the spalted Maple from a Canadian friend. This was kiln-dried so quite tough to carve but finished well.

Finished a couple of smaller spoons in Walnut - 8” or so. Ideal for jams or relish I imagine.

How can that possibly be 47 wonderful years ago? So many adventures and hopefully still a few more ahead. Truly blessed in every way. Thank you to all who are part of our story. I love you Claire in every way and always.
