It's Honor Flight season! For the first time this spring, we welcomed a group of veterans to our region. Travelers, volunteers & a BWI Marshall Airport Fire and Rescue water salute provided a warm welcome to this group of veterans from Colorado.

We know the last few days have been difficult. The normal, quick and efficient checkpoint operations we're known for have returned today. Travelers are once again advised to arrive 2 hours ahead of scheduled departure.

Kudos to our Maryland Aviation Administration team who worked to provide additional terminal support throughout the weekend. These team members (and others not pictured) assisted with customer service and line management during unprecedented delays inside the terminal.

All 4 of our security checkpoints are open this morning. As you can see in these photos from approximately 8:20am, minimal wait times at each checkpoint.

Here’s a look at Checkpoints B and C at 3pm. Wait times have greatly subsided on this Spring Break Sunday.

Checkpoint wait times have improved greatly, but remain longer than normal. Fluctuations in passenger traffic will result in variable wait times throughout the day. Travelers departing from Concourses A, B and C are advised to arrive 3 hours before scheduled departure.

We've been informed by TSA that ICE personnel will be working to assist TSA security checkpoints at BWI Marshall, similar to their roles during recent deployments at airports across the country. Full statement at BWIairport.com/SecurityDeployment.

If you are traveling today or tomorrow, please arrive to the airport 4 hours early. We have not previously experienced checkpoint wait times similar to what we are seeing this morning. Travelers most impacted are those departing from Concourses A, B and C.

Plan ahead if you're traveling this weekend. Arrive early. Expect longer than normal wait times at checkpoints. Especially if flying out from Concourses A, B or C. Checkpoint conditions will likely be at their worst during morning and afternoon hours.

The FAA has lifted an earlier ground stop that affected flights to/from BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport and other area airports. Some residual flight delays can be expected this evening. Travelers should contact their airline for flight status updates.

Spring Break and adverse impacts of the government shutdown are resulting in much longer than normal wait times at checkpoints today. While impacts are greatest in the morning, travelers should arrive early and expect checkpoint delays the rest of this afternoon and evening.
