At some point a writer of sufficient talent can write almost anything. This is not really new. Today I started on Wildcraft Drones by TK Rex, and realized, just one chapter in, the ramifications of that saying in an, “Oh you can write that too?” Kind of way. Clearly, I need to pick up my game.

This is a good thread. It’s easy to get caught up, and frankly every editor I’ve worked with has been overworked and exhausted. That’s bound to cause mistakes. Still 15 sales in one year! Not gonna lie, I’m jealous of that.

Darn it. Now I have to read another book from this list. Slow Gods was so good. Not sure anything can beat it, but I’m will to try.

Was putting up these star decorations on our house and had an extra star. Already had solid colors for red, white, and blue, so I started playing around with a few ideas. Brown background represents the house color. Which one do you like? We ended up going with the flag design.

Weird thing about facial hair that nobody tells you: It stores a crazy amount of water. Seriously, you have to squeegee it with your fingers even before you use a towel.

This is a box of stars. With any luck I’ll get them glued together, painted or stained, and on the house before the 4th. 10 stars in total, each made of five pieces, and in 2 different sizes. In total over 260 cuts with a miter saw.

I feel this one. I’ve been writing for 14 years and just now selling short stories. And we won’t talk about the 6 or so novels I’ve written. It takes a long time to work your way through it.

I’m now 60% into Slow Gods by Claire North, and I’m pretty sure it will be the best book I read this year. It’s one of those novels that are long and slow and delicious. If I was teaching a class on writing I would use it just to demonstrate how complex world building can be exciting if done right.

Honestly, don’t know why more men don’t bake cookies. They’re pretty easy to learn, involve power tools like mixers, automatically give you dad or uncle points, and there are few things better than butter mixed with sugar. First time you put a finger in that, there’s no going back. Kitchen crack.

We live on an east west aligned street, with the front of the house facing north. For most of the year direct sunlight doesn’t shine through the front windows. Thanks to our planet’s axial tilt the sun slowly rises, relative to us, more to the north until it reaches it northern most point.

The problem remains that there are more writers than there are readers. This is true even if you are only counting tradpub. There are a thousand people on the side of the road yelling and waving their signs, but it’s still the same 30 cars going by.

I realized the other day, after reading posts from a family member who is deep in the weeds, that when you strip conspiracy theories of any personal meaning, they sound exactly like the synopsis you'd find on the back of a really bad self-published thriller.
