This may not be beautiful but what a testimate to the hardiness of Arrowwood Viburnum. After three seasons of heavy ground hog pressure and serious creek side flooding it refuses die. I planted three and two remain. The one I lost actually was physically removed by flooding. Gone. #nativeplants

I’m restoring the hillside between my house and the creek and need lots of native plants. It’s going to take a while but I installed this today to start my raised beds to propagate needed plants. This is one of the Leucothoe I propagated from clippings late last summer. #nativeplants

It’s great to see my Alabama Croton coming alive. It came from a late summer clipping off one my existing plants. Worked moving a wood pile I had on concrete where I’m about to install 4 raised beds. Also, Fothergilla in bloom, a slimy salamander and a red eft. It’s all connected. #nativeplants

Such a day yesterday planting five large shade trees and digging up ten small ones along our row of large trees to take to my sister. I planted 2 sugar maples I named Shimmer and Shake. I also planted a willow oak, a pin oak and a Shumard oak. #nativeplants

I started breaking up sticks last summer under my big oak trees followed by adding logs and neighbors yard debris this summer. It’s crazy how this area has come to life. Violets and calico asters have come up, native hollies are thriving and even resurrection fern and a tulip poplar😊 #nativeplants

Planted two virginia sweetspire and moved a southern rusty blackhaw that didn’t seem to be getting enough light. Will be planting some blackhaw, a tulip poplar, bald cypress and a black gum in that general area soon. I may add a Diablo nine bark on the far right in the new bed #nativeplants

Since I planted native plants in my yard the chain affect continues. I have bats that have pulled back my vinyl siding and are roosting there. So, I am hoping by putting up a bat box 🦇 nearby they will be happy to relocate there. Kydia my female gray tabby is checking it out😂

My Late Boneset is blooming but the color show is mostly over. The American Burnweed should be blooming in the next week. I find a lot of beauty in the plants that remain after their growing season. I have pepper weed, yellow iron weed and ragweed blooming in the backyard. #nativeplants

Here is a river cooter hatchling from last summer. I had over 20 nests this year and most have already hatched but I haven’t seen any hatchlings this year. In fact, this is the only hatchling I have seen in the three years we have lived here. They love the wildflower areas to nest. #nativeplants
