Finished Doom 2. It mostly plays like the first Doom, but has bigger maps and a bunch of new demons to obliterate. The city maps were pretty annoying, but overall it's just as fun as Doom 1. The music absolutely kicks ass once again as well.

Grabbed the Deluxe Edition of Plucky Squire. I really like this charming little game and always wanted a physical copy of it. The Deluxe Edition includes: - The Game - Artbook - Soundtrack

Finished The Legend of Zelda. Luckily I remembered a lot of the super cryptic nonsense that the game throws at you, but it was still really unclear at times. Even though it can be confusing, I quite like this game, and drawing the entire map on paper was actually pretty fun.

Finished Syberia 2. Something about the Syberia games just makes me feel calm. Maybe it's the beautiful OST combined with the gorgeous snowy wilderness. Some puzzles are quite obtuse, and some of the long, uneventful walks in big areas can make the game feel a little too slow.

Finished Crisis Core: Reunion. Zack is such a loveable dork, and the interactions between him and Aerith are just wholesome. Zack's bittersweet story will always hit me right in the heart. It looks great and the combat feels much better than it did in the PSP version imo.

Nothing makes me want to play The Legend of Zelda more than an extremely cheesy commercial from the 80s.

Finished Ehrgeiz (Arcade mode). I originally wanted to beat the Arcade Mode using only the Final Fantasy 7 characters, but ended up playing it through with the entire roster. It is pretty janky and far from the best fighting game ever made, but it still gave me some fun rounds.

It's nuts that it's releasing this year already.

Can't stop thinking about Final Fantasy VII today, so I might as well start a playthrough of Crisis Core Reunion.

Finished Castle of Illusion. It's a really good platformer on the Master System. It has tight, responsive controls, a catchy little OST, and some colorful, well-designed levels. There are some tricky parts near the end, but it almost never feels unfair or overly frustrating.

Finished Stranger of Paradise. Combat is where the game mostly shines imo, especially with the variety of jobs that keep battles fresh. The story was fine, and I quite liked the ending. Jack is such an edgy weirdo, which made some cutscenes awkward, but also really entertaining.

I bought a bunch of good old platformers recently. Banjo and Tiny Toons are some childhood games I want to replay soon. Ruff & Tumble (probably better known as 40 Winks) and Crash 2 are two games which I only played the demo versions of.

Finished X-Men: Children of the Atom. 2D fighting games from Capcom are just always a ton of fun even when I get my ass kicked pretty hard by Magneto like in this game. :D The characters look vibrant, the animations are really smooth, and everything overall just feels good.

I played a bit of Star Wars Chess, which was entertaining for a few rounds, even though I suck at chess. 😅 I was mostly impressed by the nicely animated and surprisingly violent capture cutscenes.

How Star Wars should've ended.

I recently saw a trailer for Stranger of Paradise again, and it honestly got me in the mood to finally play it. I know a lot of people didn't like this game, but the gameplay looked fun imo, and I just want to know what's up with CHAOS. 😄

Finished Super Metroid. This game is pretty sick. They did a wonderful job with the dark and ominous atmosphere, and the music helped enhance that feeling. The size of the map is impressive for its era, but luckily there's finally an in-game map unlike in the previous games.

Another classic game that I only played as a child and couldn’t get far in is Super Metroid. I'm going to give it a second chance and just hope I'll enjoy it more this time around.

Finished Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. They toned down the difficulty from earlier Super Star Wars games, and I'm glad they did, because now it's actually beatable without save states for me. 😅 It's still an unforgiving game. Especially the last level just pissed me off.

Finished Super Star Wars. I thought it was a good idea to play through a Star Wars game from my childhood for May 4th, but boy, it's brutally difficult, and I had to use a lot of save states to beat it. The soundtrack is based on the films, but beautifully arranged for the SNES.

Finished Control. I probably understood only half of the crazy story and I'll have to watch some explanation vids later, but I was still hooked by it all. I loved the cold and kinda eerie atmosphere. The skills and weapons are neat, but the combat sometimes just frustrated me.

Since Cuphead is one of my favourite games, I was naturally curious about the comics and couldn’t resist getting them.

Starting Control next. It gets a lot of praise, and it definitely caught my interest from the little footage I’ve seen so far.

Finished Syberia. A quite cozy point and click adventure that has a very unique vibe of its own to it. The OST is really beautiful and has a strong melancholic tone, which gives the game an overall wistful atmosphere. The story is interesting but it's definitely a slow burner.

Finished Bulletstorm. This game was just a ton of fun and pure action from start to finish. I loved the skillshot-system too. The characters were all kinda unlikable macho dudes, but the story was still alright overall and mostly what you would expect from a game like this.

Finished God of War 3. GoW 2 set the bar pretty damn high, but GoW 3 still managed to surpass it in every way, imo. I almost felt sorry for the gods, because Kratos is such a crazy menace in this game, which I absolutely loved. Simply an incredible finale to the greek trilogy.

Finished Spitlings. One of those tough-as-nails arcadey games that tested my patience the hard way. It’s ruthless with its one-hit deaths, but it doesn’t waste your time too much, and retries are instant. It's probably a lot more fun (and way more chaotic) in co-op mode though.

And right on to the next and final game of the God of War trilogy.

Finished God of War 2. Another incredibly fun game, and even better than the first one. The combat feels smoother and more polished, the boss fights are awesome, and the platforming is much less frustrating. The ending was also really great and got me excited for God of War 3.

I’ve been seeing a lot of love for the PS2 God of War games on my timeline lately, which put me in the mood to start God of War 2. The first game was fantastic, so my expectations for the sequel are pretty high.

Finished Lost Records: Bloom & Rage. It starts slow, and I get why the cheesy teen drama can be off-putting, but I think they built the girls’ friendship well, and I got invested in the characters and story. My only gripe are the weird graphical glitches, which I had plenty of.

Just a little post about my recent pickups! I loved the Turok games as a child, even though I never got very far in them because they were too difficult. Glad they got a port to modern consoles. System Shock and Odin Sphere are both games I’ve heard good things about.

Finished Doom (1993). I always thought this type of game wasn’t my cup of tea, but holy hell, did I enjoy my playthrough of this one. I love how fast paced and chaotic (in a good way) it is. Blasting demons while listening to some adrenaline pumping music is SO satisfying.

Finished Super Mario RPG. I just love how lighthearted and quirky it is. I also like the timed hits and blocks, which add a small but nice layer to the otherwise classic turn-based combat. The soundtrack is catchy as hell. The battle music has been stuck in my head for days now.

I knew that Link had a little cameo in Super Mario RPG, but I had no idea that Samus was also chilling in the Mushroom Kingdom.

Finished Paradise Killer. It’s a really stylish open-world mystery game where you investigate a murder on an island filled with a bunch of strange characters. I really fell in love with the characters, the story, the setting, the overall vibe, and especially the soundtrack.

I think today is a good day to start a playthrough of Super Mario RPG.

Finished Maiden of the Dark. A neat and sometimes quite tricky action-platformer. It is overall pretty fair though, so it never got too frustrating. Big fan of the artstyle in the story parts. The hitboxes are a little off, but other than that I enjoyed my time with this game.

Dusted off the trusty ol’ Game Boy Color to play a little Game Boy homebrew game I backed on Kickstarter.

Finished Mega Man 6. Such a nice swan song for the Mega Man series on the NES. The stages are beautiful, the robot masters are all really cool designed and it was overall pretty fair (except for maybe two annoying bosses near the end). The music is also very good and super catchy.

Finished As Dusk Falls. Awesome narrative-driven game, where your decisions genuinely matter, and you truly feel the consequences of your choices. If you are not a fan of QTEs, then this game is probably not your cup of tea, since that's basically all the gameplay consists of.

Finished Midnight Fight Express. Pretty cool isometric Beat'em Up with a surprisingly deep skill/combat system. The level and character designs are a bit basic, though it's neat that you can kinda create your own character. My absolute highlight was the sick EDM soundtrack.

Platforming games I love that aren't Mario or Sonic.

Finished God of War (PS2). I loved how cinematic it felt, and how fast and fluid the combat was. It isn’t without its flaws tho, especially near the end it becomes unnecessarily frustrating. The Story was pretty cool, and surprisingly kinda tragic too. Kratos is just a badass.

The current God of War hype wave kinda got me, which is why I’ll finally play the original God of War for the first time next.

Spent my Sunday watching Predator 1 and Predator 2 for the first time in ages. Especially the first Predator movie just brings a smile to my face with its over the top cast of manly macho men and their silly one-liners. But it also knows how to build suspense. It’s awesome.

Finished DuckTales (GB). I think that if you like the NES version, then you will probably have a great time with this game too. The levels are pretty much the same as on the NES, just simpler and more cramped. The music is also good, but sadly it lacks the NES version’s punch.

Finished Kathy Rain. I love me a good mystery, and that’s exactly what this game delivers. I didn’t expect the supernatural angle to go as deep as it did though, but I enjoyed it. It's fully voice acted, and the performances are great. Overall a pretty cool Point and Click adventure.
