Anemopsis californica, also known as yerba mansa or lizard tail, is a perennial herb with white cone-shaped flowers and red stems. "Yerba" means "herb" and "mansa" means "calm," which is fitting since this plant is known to have medicinal properties. Come on by and pick some up at our nursery 🦎

In summer, our Conservation Program monitors seeds of Ca lilac for ripeness, which blankets LA's hillsides in soft waves of sweet blooms each spring. An obligate seeder, this plant's tiny, hard-coated seeds wait for the heat of a fire to crack their protective coating and trigger germination.
