My library's small & I'm envious of big libraries that can employ a social worker. Just this week, we helped a guy just out of jail get to his parents place after the county randomly dropped him off here, and we helped a woman set up a burner email so she can get help leaving her abusive husband😔

Look, I don't dream of labor, but I am glad I'm in the job I'm in. I have a friend who wants to leave her current full-time Library position and it's so, so difficult to find full time Library positions in our area. Catch me retiring in 20 years from the same library I'm at now.

I'm also working hard to raise funds for my sister. She's struggling with both unemployment and divorce, plus caring for my teenage nephew. Every contribution helps her stay on her feet even as the emotional and financial strain have been so much to bear.

I put off my taxes this year even though I know they're so easy. I'm not a homeowner, a parent, a farmer, a veteran, or rich so 10 minutes and I'm done. 🤣

I once had a co-worker in a happy marriage who always said she didn't want kids. But she did get pregnant and I think she surprised even herself when she decided to keep it. She ended up leaving the job and every so often I wonder about her and hope everything worked out.

Talked to my boss about a salary bump since he's changing the org chart and I'll be managing 4 people soon. He agreed! Budget is being finalized now, but I'll get the numbers in April. Still DON'T want to be a manager but at least I'll make manager money! (Not tons, I'm a librarian, but still!)

Thank goodness for modern conveniences. I was running late this morning and forgot my lunch. I only get half an hour to eat, and I can't just eat any old thing since I'm diabetic. DoorDashed half a sandwich and half a salad from Panera. Lunch is saved! Hate paying for it haha, but needs must!

Sharing some queer joy!!! The local nonprofit I'm on the board of just hosted our third Teen Queer Prom and it was the most successful one yet! 130 queer teens had a magical night where they could be themselves and see queer adults showing up to make it happen for them. Best night of the year. 💜

My sister was bummed she had texted my mom with no response. I said, it's a tough situation, maybe she's avoiding it. Then. We realized her text app updated weird and her contacts got mixed up. So the text did NOT go to my mom, but someone who should NEVER have received those texts. RIP my sis ☠️

A confession and a stark reminder. Tonight I listened to a podcast about Columbine. They said 13 people died in that school shooting. "Oh, that's all?" I thought, then felt horror at myself. That's how living in a country with more than one mass shooting a day warps you without your consent.

2025 was a big “just survive” year for me and many others, so i just want to say i’m proud of you. thank you for still being here

Helped start 2 new monthly groups, and helped raise more than $11k, for the queer nonprofit I'm on the board of. Started putting 10% more of my salary into my municipal retirement fund. Presented at the IL Library Association conference. Lowered my A1c half a point (#diabeticlife).

Having to work today is a travesty.

With a little Christmas magic, the stockings are hung by the chimney with care (at my mom's house 😉).
