Recently read: Bottomless Belly Button by Dash Shaw. Looks like a thick one, but it reads fast. The cartooning is simple yet beautiful, and the realism of the writing style really shines through. Shaw says to take breaks between parts, but I say read it straight through.

Recently read, Search and Destroy Vol 2 and 3 by Atsushi Kaneko based on a Tezuka. Somewhere there's a Fantagraphics equivalent in Japan grumpy & disgusted by a remake of something by a master. But our 🇺🇸 Fanta doesn't know anything about that and I'm glad for that ignorance.

Recent read, 'The Court Charade' by Flore Vesco and Kerascöet. Following creators can put you against genres you not be immediately drawn to. This is the case with artist team Kerascöet and this court comedy. Good new though! I loved it!

Recent read: Die Loaded 1-6. Gillen continues the Die saga with a sequel that has all the meta layers that the previous series had and is reason that Gillen is one of my favorite writers in comics today.

Recent Reads: Vol 3 of Ram V's Detective Comics run. Solid but I'd like to wait until I've taken in the whole "opera."

Recent Reads: Dong Dong Circus by Sasaki Maki. The avant garde, the so avant garde that there's no real story, are difficult to have a chance to be my favorites, but I'm glad they exist. A book like this is training to slow down, smell the roses, and look at the drawings.

Recent reads: Love and Rockets 38. Final or penultimate chapters of some of the mature arcs of Jaime's and Beto's.

This is a note to self as much of a share: a quick guide to some of the niche alternative manga.

Not so much critism as it is a survey of poetry comics that morphs into a 'Why do art' essay, is still a very enjoyable read by Lara Boyle.

Recent read. Godlike by Richard Hell. Quick, interesting, entertaining alt proto punk novel about a dysfunctional relationship, artists in NYC in the 70s.

Some good analysis and an interesting spotlight on "that time Dave Cooper did colors on Grendel." ("That time that..." should really be the formula all comics essays).

Recent Reads. Love and Rockets 38, slowly but surely. It takes me a good 50 minutes to read an issue so a lot bang for you buck.

Recent read. Electric Chair by Adam Falpis. Trying to capture the art style and feel of 70s undergrounds could turn into the equivalent of Creed covering a Frank Zappa. I liked this more than that, so it's more like Arcade Fire trying to cover Zappa. ✌️.

Unless Christopher Nolan writes the poem's Odysseus: a cunning, pillaging, **ping, slave trading, murderous thief then it won't be very faithful. I'll still be there for it. But it would be crazy to get a true Odysseus on the screen. I guess we have the poem for that.

The Codefendants aren't for everybody, but they're definitely for me.

I am very behind on my Wednesday Warrior comics. I'm not following any DC or Marvel monthly right now. But everything: Energon Ghost Machine Conan ...is plenty to keep me busy.

The Aaron Turner era of Neurosis begins with a thing of beauty. Through Silver in Blood is a great album. I hope we get more of this for years to cone.

I like Henry Oliver's blog, I think he's wrong on Dostoevsky. Although I don't quite disagree with him that Tolstoy and Turgenev might be better. But the comparison is only because they're all Russian, the reality is that comparing them is ill fitting.
