I am a teacher whose room evolves with information over time. Not Pinterest but I’m leaning in Type B.

Today: unhappy student, a different issue requiring professional support, the never ending paperwork, a PD at the end of the day and I got to see a coworker who started everything with me.

My students enjoy doing things with tape. We will post the visuals with these words as a lesson. One day, I will buy another set of pocket charts and then figure out how to get it on the wall. (My students destroy staples and pushpins)

My room is finally come along. School has only been in session for 5 weeks. Now I need to add the things for ELA and Math.

I opened my room this week. The mess is contained in a corner. The students were unhappy that everything wasn’t where they left it and then they moved half the things I set up.

It took a few tries to get this to work. Not going to send this to sale because there is a big reason I’m using a serif font. But did get the page count down and will require some more cutting. But printed about 40% ready.

Not ok: I’m literally speaking with a friend who has a baby (2 yo) with another on the way, and I’m giving them ideas for making sure if he’s out with either mom or dad and they get “mistakenly taken by ICE” that someone can contact other family to get the kid home. This wasn’t in Adulting 101

While the certificate was used to validate to the state, as of July, I have a “clear” credential. Two more years and they will let me have a student teacher….

My brain is in overdrive trying to solve the parts I don’t have. The lists help make the tiny parts accessible for my students and unfortunately there are dozens of tiny parts. #SpEdTeacher #ThirdYearTeacher

I believe in due process before the law. I believe in innocent until proven guilty. I am acquainted with someone who was just arrested. May the law be fair and balanced.

Ok the Field Trip lowdown: 1) first solo special ed trip. 2) only lost one student for under 2 minutes 3) frustration: students and grocery carts were way too attractive to glass liquor bottles 😳😬 4) they all did well even with me dragging a wagon 5) it got really hot on the way back, 1/2

My year one my team was ok. The least skilled of the team was only on for a year and there were bumps but we respected each other. My year two had a deep feeling about someone brought on. And that feeling came true. And there was sadness for the full team. 1/🧵

The state said In good. Paperwork is in the right places and the money has been paid. My credential is cleared. I can begin #Year3Teaching

It took two and a half days to clear my classroom. I’m checked out. Key with admin. #SecondYearTeacher I will be back.

Never, ever underestimate my class again with any toy. This was found after a toy was partially pried open and then we found the marbles all across the classroom. Got them all before someone tried to eat them…

Yesterday, I heard my AP’s voice on loudspeaker. “Lockdown.” Kids were at lunch. I was technically on prep, the majority of my class had just returned. I had heard ten minutes before the call, the reason, but folks weren’t worried ten minutes prior. But the call came. Blinds down, lights off. 1/🧵

This turned out cute. Took a lot of energy to convince my class to do the steps. Some, like tying was done by an adult. Everything else: they did. (Painting, gluing, cutting)

The end of the first part.

Today I completed my last steps in my credential. The two years after my university issued to the state my preliminary that let me get a teaching job. Now I’m a “real teacher” (pending my final payment and the information going to the state.

Just sharing that after my presentation on Thursday, I’m going to be fully cleared on my credential. One more year and I might just be no longer on the rubric a 2/3 for evaluations. We shall see.

Not on my list today: convincing student not to run after wild ducks on campus. Yes he almost snagged one. #SecondYearTeacher

And then this beautiful creature appeared. I did see fence lizard too but since O was watering he decided to hide behind the fence.

My first butterfly shoot. We’ve tried for years and no a butterfly finally landed in the yard and stuck around for photos!!!

I really believe wild turkeys should have “Jaws” like theme song whenever they are about. These turkeys are trying to get coffee.

Just a reminder: cancer can take a deep dive into a shallow puddle. Just was called to step up as “Aunt Renay”. Always knew it could happen, and here we are. I don’t need advice, I will reach out as necessary.

#CalTASH2025 starting off “…just want friends…”, “not being included means I would have a very different life…”, “when every student is included … in extra curricular activities…”

In summary: I was scratched by one student today and another student kicked me in the shins repeatedly. Truthfully, both did communicate their needs prior to me getting the raw deal, but I was unable to provide both what they wanted.

How did my day go? Rainy day schedule. Traffic sent me the “long way”, got in as the first bus pulled in. I spilled coffee on myself. I forgot to pack a student’s AAC. I finished my breakfast at 1:38 pm. I put the classroom laundry in the basket but left it at work. #SpEdTeacherLife

Yes I’m starting to make a mess in the room… I even got the computer to record the audio read of this slide, put it in, to play back with NO indication of the audio… I’m ahead on the technology this time..

Ok, look I know I had other choices but I also enjoy how my food tastes. I went to an expensive store, found the prices reflect the situation current of ingredients. Stunned me had to make some choices today. Hopefully they are tasty just the same. Irony: that’s the unit with my students right now.

I’m not ashamed to state the fact that my emotional eating was an emotional necessity today. I was sad when I ran out halfway home.

I am not a glitter teacher, this will not be a glitter lesson. But my students attempt to build leprechaun traps. The leprechauns make a mess in the classroom. This is the first day of the mess.

My evening.

The weather was good. I got to wear new shoes to work. I got a good lunch. I saw one of my favorite coworkers at work. I got things ready for once. I finished the required things for work. Over all, 8/10 day.
