I have just written a new blog post, link in comments. With the new year rapidly approaching I thought this would be a good time to reflect on the first year of running Northwing Miniatures, while also looking forward to what I hope to achieve in 2026.

Avery has been helping me test out my new 4x4 gaming board. I still need to pick up some timber to make a frame for it, which may also include a hinged element for a 2 foot extension.

Just finished my first ten Gors for my Beastman Brayherds army. I'm hoping to have another ten finished before the end of the year.

How foolish I was for thinking that the new chair I'd bought was for me to sit on. They're so cute though that I've obviously left them be.

The hobby desk is set up in the new house (as well as a mobile hotspot so I can get internet on devices again). I still need more shelves but painting can resume.

I found myself a display cabinet, so naturally I spent an hour or so last night filling it up with minis. Technically I was unpacking the house after our move 😬

Due to moving house this week I haven't had any time for hobby. However, in exciting news Alan Marsh has just sent me some preliminary photos of some of the new sculpts he's working on for me!

After a very busy day packing and clearing the shed ready for next week, I'm relaxing with plastic, glue, and some pizza.

This has been a week that warrants a Friday night beer and some plastic to glue together.

Just to let you all know that if you want any orders from Northwing Miniatures between now and Christmas you will need to put your order in before 5pm tomorrow. I am moving house next week so there will be some disruption, and I likely won't be up and running again until January I'm afraid.

I am having a rubbish day. I've been run ragged trying to get answers out of solicitors and estate agents (it's like getting blood from a stone). So getting some excellent minis and moulds from @fenrisgames.com has really cheered me up!

Shopping small is meaningful!

With most of my miniature projects packed up ready for our house move I only have a small box of unpainted minis to keep me busy. So I decided it was about time that I change Saruman the Grey (unpainted) to Saruman the White.

Who let the dogs out? I did as I needed reinforcements for my Warriors of Chaos army. They'll also be used in my Beastman army that I'll be doing in 2026.

Exciting times - I've just sent Alan Marsh my briefing documents for my next wave of Jewish Revolt against Rome minis, plus an entirely new range of figures with the placeholder name of "The Rat-Kin Reavers"...

I never realised how many different options there were for materials you could use for wiping off paint while dry brushing. There are some fantastic replies in the comments.

What are people's favourite materials for dry brushing? Mine is cardboard, which I usually get from the back of cheap note pads. I've just started a new one for tonight's painting session when I'll be working on some war dogs.

My Ogre bodyguard was getting a bit greedy and not doing that much for my Mordheim warband, so I've given him his P45 and hired a pit fighter instead (that I've just finished building and painting).

Had a fantastic roadtrip with some mates down to Battleground today and picked up a good haul of things. Most of which was actually on my original shopping list! If you're in the area next year I'd highly recommend it.

Last night I returned to the city of Mordheim with my Marienburgers, this time to face the Possessed. My pirates pulled off another victory, but lost two of their number permanently to injuries. Afterwards I let my Ogre mercenary go as he was eating all my food but not actually achieving very much.

Disaster! Sometimes in the night my desk lamp has snapped and broken. I have no evidence as to what caused this but I blame one of the cats... Would appreciate recommendations for a good desk lamp for painting please 🙂

Just finished my ratling squad (all metal) for my 3rd edition 40k Imperial Guard army. Absolutely love the character in these minis and the little touches the sculptors added like the apple core.

I decided to get myself a carry case from Element Games for travelling with un-magnetised models. For £36 it's decent, being able to carry approx 72 minis (28mm). I filled it up with minis and did a shake test, including gently throwing it across the room, and nothing shifted inside. Can recommend.

I popped down to Durham for some Christmas shopping today, and had a quick word with my pal Bede (The Venerable) at Durham Cathedral while I was there.

This was one of my favourite moments from last night's Mordheim game. The Thing (aka, Turkey Man) has just walked down the stairs and is eyeing up his next meal. The skaven have the chance to charge him as a group and overwhelm him, but all bar one rat fail their fear test so fail to charge!

Tonight me and my mate played the Thing in the Woods Mordheim scenario. The two Things definitely had the best of it! Turkey Man ate two skaven, while the wolfman killed one of my swordsmen.

I've just finished painting up Sandor the werewolf from @badsquiddogames.bsky.social, just in time for him and Turkey Man to travel to Mordheim tomorrow night. They will be haunting some ruins and hunting some unsuspecting warbands who dare enter their territory.
