Technically it’s not tone deaf, because that implies ignorance. They are flat out celebrating the cancellation of healthcare and food assistance for the “undeserving.”

Sometimes I really hate how the world works.

It’s not his fault, but Obama is the genesis of this moment. The ACA was interpreted as a black president mandating the behavior (buying insurance) of whites, and the revulsion to that launched the Tea Party, which is now MAGA. Also, Obama’s ribbing of Trump at the WHCA dinner impelled him to run.

“Fucker is taking your money and giving it to Argentina.” is a step towards effective messaging.

Probably the most alarming thing about this is, if and when Dems arrive at a winning message, where the hell would working class Americans ever hear it? On Fox News? On their X Feeds? On their Facebook feeds? Because that’s where their eyeballs are.

The most tragic part of this is that, it’s easy to see how evil the GOP is to the most vulnerable. How they kidnap people and pry them from families. It sadly doesn’t move the branding needle. Doesn’t make Dems any more trusted. If anything it raises GOP popularity, on the idea of job completion.

Dems usually try to make “billionaires” the villains. That has no traction anymore. “Billionaires” are the ppl who gave us TikTok and sports betting and “know how to make us rich.” GOP messaging about how only rich ppl know how to run stuff has taken firm hold.

This exactly. Because Dems are a messier coalition, they have more outlier messaging that gets a ton of attention and becomes an attack surface. GOP spends billions to make it seem representative. Doesn’t matter what individual Dems do; they all get painted with it.
