Algeria: new reform to “structure” political parties Algeria is working to reform its Organic Law framing the establishment and running of political parties, reports Maghrebi Week on 12th January. Despite receiving cross-party support, the reform has caused some concern that it would prevent the registration of new political parties or regional movements, due to higher requirements. Under new plans, parties would need to be present in at least half of Algeria's regions, and they could be dissolved if they don't participate in two elections in a row. However, the government is promoting the reform as a bid to make the political scene more transparent and to fight corruption.
