I finished Phoenix Totem! Huai Shang doesn't write about small emotions - everything is grandiose and intense: "love and destruction are inseparable twins that clash in a dazzling firework then perish hand in hand" (quote from the novel, my own translation).

Started reading another danmei novel called Phoenix Totem and it's so addictive that I'm already half way through it. It's an early novel by Huai Shang (who's best known for A Break in the Clouds), and I do hope it could be licensed in English somehow because boy are 2ha fans gonna love this one.

Very concerning that for the 2nd year in a row the Venues for Pink Dot Hong Kong have been pressured by "Someone*" to not let the venues be hired to them (That's what Licence Issues mean). This is not okay. It's suppression of the LGBTQIA+ community in Hong Kong.

So many childhood memories. The scene of Ne Zha ending his own life, or in his words, "returning my flesh and bones to my father", is peak tragedy, utterly unforgettable.

60 chapters into Three Hundred Years of Longing and my biggest problem with the novel is how detached and impassive the writing feels most of the time. The author writes more like a historian recording past political/social events than a storyteller empathising with the human drama he created.
