Chapter 13 is going to be daunting. It’s going to be a little bit of “Spirited Away” with all the creatures I need to design. And my strategy? Making them up as I go along. There’s not enough time to spend on concepts. This feels like writing an in-depth research paper the night before it’s due.

I discovered these Mitsubishi dual colored pencils (Vermillion/Prussian) a while back and fell in love with them. I’m always fearful of discontinued pencils that I had to stock up. I think I have a 4th box somewhere else. I still want a box of Sanford Design Ebony pencils. 🙃

Sometimes we’re unsatisfied with a thing we made because when it only existed in our head, we saw all the things it could have been and when it’s done we know all the things that it isn’t, but we can’t see the way it expands into a million new things when someone else unpacks it in their head. 🖊️🦑

It took a year, but I completed Chapter 12. The last page will be posted on September 5. I've started the sketching phase for Chapter 13, but I'll be taking my regular break in between chapters. Looking back at these pages... There are so many hours poured into this comic that it overwhelms me. ❤️

Back in 2012, my comic had a panel showing a mysterious eye under the water (the kraken in my comic). The thought of something massive lurking underneath always tickled my brain with a creepy/eerie feeling. Seeing the poster for the new KRAKEN movie made me realize I'm not alone. ;D

I've been so busy lately that the only way I remembered it was my birthday was from the various automatic emails from mailing lists. 🎂
