Curt Cignetti (and David Braun for that matter) are proving it’s way easier to win games with even a historically bad Big Ten team than it is to win FCS games.

Something (possibly the 41-20 lead in the 4th quarter) makes us think Weber State isn’t going to pull off the miracle.

An astute member of /r/FCS (/u/Windows_66) noted that with Drake’s 19-16 win by Harry Balke’s time expiring 55-yard FG, Drake has now beat San Diego in three straight years on the last play of the game.

Generally like to think of southerners as a kind but tough and resilient bunch. Think Nathaniel Greene leading the southern theater, Nat Turner’s Rebellion, the Montgomery Bus Boycotts, the Albany Movement, etc. So this isn’t what we expected from a southerner faced with reality.

JSU obviously isn’t worried about it and thrilled for them to still be in Celebration Bowl contention. But man, we just got denied a Jackson State playoff team and that’s sorta disappointing.

Western Carolina puts together their first complete game of the season, trouncing Furman 52-7 and effectively making the SoCon race a two team battle.

Like the Illinois State game, it's weird to look at NDSU's box score numbers and understand where they're "struggling" on offense. 10.9 yards per rush attempt, 8.8 yards per pass attempt. But tied just 10-10 deep in the 2nd quarter and doesn't have a third down conversion 🤨

3-3 Western Carolina (1-3 in OOC) seems to have made it their mission to struggle with bad teams, only to beat up on one of the two SoCon teams with a winning record. The SoCon can't seem to escape the SoftCon allegations.

2nd half starting, Mercer 21 - Princeton 7 For those curious: Princeton looks awful. It’s clear why they lost to USD and barely got by Columbia. Mercer looks ok to lackluster given how bad Princeton looks. It’s clear why they lost to Presby and barely got by Wofford & ETSU.

So Princeton’s ceiling is looking about 5-5, 3-4 in Ivy play, eh? (Although seems more likely 4-6, 2-5 in Ivy play if we’re being honest)

Under an hour before we get to see whether a middle-of-the-road Princeton team can shake being underdogs and stay close with the current odds-on favorite to be the SoCon's sole playoff rep.

JMU hitting the ground running, and now Missouri State (‼️) being 3-3 in their first FBS season really tells you everything you need to know. The FCS is clearly just made up of JV scrubs that couldn’t compete with powers in the FBS like MTSU, UMass, Liberty, and Oklahoma State.

Nothing against Dan Curran, but Holy Cross would surely welcome Bill Belichick as one of their own. Heck, he’d be a legacy coach given his ties!

Fool proof way of determining playoff teams: Easy peasy: 11 autobids 3 more for mvfc 2 more for Big Sky, Ivy, Patriot 1 more for UAC, CAA, OVC-Big South, and Southland We go down the line (2nd best mvfc, 2nd best big Sky, etc). Then start again with 3rd best mvfc, etc.

Non-FCS related, but needs saying: Chicago’s wonderful (and safer than Salt Lake City, Myrtle Beach, Louisville, Toledo, Tulsa, San Antonio, Gainesville, Lubbock, Corpus Cristi, etc.) The biggest threat to my neighbors last few days are masked thugs beating and kidnapping them.

Imagine having the opportunity to rep North in your name and still choosing to use the more embarrassing Southern qualifier. It would be like saying you could name yourself the Charleston Patriots and instead go with the Charleston 28-3 Falcons.

Turns out there’s a bunch of random Texas schools that belong on the left. Like SHSU, UTEP, Texas State, Rice, and maybe others? Look, it’s hard to remember all the random G6 teams. Probably says something about their appeal and national relevance. At least FCS schools don’t pretend.
