Parasite Eve II thoroughly rocks. Don't know why I waited so long to play it. Straight up fun kill-monsters-level-powers progression and gratifying guns and armor 'n item customization. Feels like Resident Evil 3.5 in many ways but with sexy Tetsuya Nomura flair and JRPG particle effects.

Alien: Earth -shouldn’t use (any?) pop music -has nice cross-fades -has annoying kids but not poorly-written annoying kids -doesn’t always look like a million bucks and was always destined to be redeemed because ultimately I love Alien and Timothy Olyphant looks like Jack goddarn Frost.

Took me 106 minutes to beat Metal Garden and I managed to take 28 screenshots. Terrific atmosphere not just in the game world and narrative but elements of the UI. It all feels so slick and incredibly impressive for a solo dev. Like falling asleep playing around on the fringes of Halo levels.
