🌾🎉 A huge win for farming today with the very welcome news that the Government will be raising the inheritance tax threshold for farmers from £1m to £2.5m. 🚜The badly thought-out policy was set to damage family farms - which we all rely on for our food security.

The Government seems determined to take away our democracy again in next May's local elections. After last year's County Council elections were cancelled, any further delay would be unacceptable. I hope that local Councils will stand up to them and ensure local elections go ahead as planned.

🎉 Campaign Win! 💧 Protection for chalk stream rivers has been a key campaign and I've called for this many times. So I'm pleased the Government is introducing this.

👋 Hi North East Hampshire! As we head into the Festive period, I wanted to share a quick update on what I've been working on over the past few weeks. Recently, I: 🛃 Asked the Cabinet Minister to fix the economy by forging a bespoke customs union with the EU. (1/5)

💔Heartbreaking news today from places of learning and celebration.

Many of you have written in to me about issues with parcels delivered by Evri. Parcels not being delivered... or delivered to the wrong address.. or unclear communication. Even parcels being opened or delivered with items missing - this is not acceptable, especially during the run-up to Christmas.

(1/2) The budget has left businesses high and dry. One way we can grow the economy and get better public services without raising taxes on working people would be to forge a new UK-EU customs union.

It used to be cards, now it’s parcels. The Royal Mail sorting office in Fleet is a hive of activity, as I saw yesterday when I popped in for a quick visit. At this time of year, there are about 2.5 times the usual number of parcels being posted. (1/3)

🅿️ Just another quick reminder that it's free to park in council-run car parks tomorrow (Saturday 6th). This is being offered by both Hart and Basingstoke and Deane councils, as part of their support for Small Business Saturday. 🙌 What a great opportunity to get out and support local businesses!

⚠️ Hampshire Mayoral elections delayed! 💥 The level of indecision and disorganisation demonstrates the Government's incompetence. Either the Government lacks a vision for devolution or the capability to deliver it well. 🗳️ Labour is once again denying local people from participating in democracy.

💡 In case you missed it! 📰 The Basingstoke Gazette published a great piece covering my thoughts on the Budget; what I liked, what I would've done differently, and what I plan to do next. 👉 Give it a read:

(1) 😤 Unbelievable. ⚠️ The Government's plans to restrict jury trials are a violation of our fundamental rights, and undermine the very foundation of our legal system. ❌ All this to reduce our court backlog by 30,000 cases, which will hardly make an impact with case loads closing in on 100,000.

Thank you to the students of Greenfields Junior School for their excellent questions during their trip to Parliament, last week, and to the staff who made this visit possible. It's so important that we get young people involved in politics and it's nice to see our future is in good hands!

🗓 This Saturday 6th December is Small Business Saturday. 🚗 There will be no charge to park in Council-run car parks across North East Hampshire all day. 🎁 This is a perfect opportunity to visit some local businesses, especially if you have some Christmas shopping to do.

(1) 🚜 Today's #budget needs to make things right with British farmers. This government has hit farmers hard, significantly and repeatedly: 💰 First they implemented the Family Farm Tax, 📉 Then they cut the farming budget by £100mn, ♻️ And then they closed the Sustainable Farming Incentive.

A woman is killed by a partner or ex-partner once every 3 days in the UK. This far exceeds the number of people killed by terrorism in the UK over the past 20 years. In fact, more women are killed by a partner or ex-partner each year than the number of people killed in the 7 July bombing in 2005.

We've come a long way in politics when it comes to equal representation, and this is worth celebrating. But we're not quite there yet. Therefore, today, on #AskHerToStand Day, I'm putting out a call: if you know any women who could do some good in politics, please encourage them to get involved.

🍺 Last week, I enjoyed a rare chance to visit the pub with some colleagues. However, with the price of a pint up more than £1 (28%) in the last 5 years, we know many have been priced out of treats like this. 🛎️ That's why the Lib Dems' focus for this budget is on supporting our hospitality sector:

Today is World Pancreatic Cancer Day. This is a devastating disease. With very few symptoms, it hides away until it's too late. 5-year survival rates are very low. We need to be doing more.

🎉 Happy International Men's Day! 💙 I am so lucky to have some amazing men in my life and I could not do what I do without their support. It's important to recognise and appreciate them.

⚡High energy prices are a major issue, not just for residents trying to heat their homes, but also for small businesses which cannot reduce their energy consumption when prices go up. ❓Because of this, I asked the Minister for Energy what plans he has to support small businesses with these costs.

Another busy week in Parliament and in #NorthEastHampshire. This week, I: 🏃 Cheered on Stepping Stones DS Ambassador, Lloyd on the 3rd day of his triathlon for BBC Children In Need 💧 Spoke about protecting chalk stream rivers, during a debate on the Planning and Infrastructure Bill.

A constituent who has prostate cancer is crocheting these Moustaches in his chemotherapy sessions to raise awareness men's health issues. Movember has taken off as an awareness and fundraising campaign. It takes real strength to talk about personal issues like cancer and mental health.

🏦 It was a real pleasure to open the new Nationwide branch on Fleet high street, which will soon be the only physical bank left in the constituency. 💷 Although banking is increasingly done online, a physical teller can often still be a huge help.

✅ I'm glad to see that the Government has decided to scrap the role of Police and Crime Commissioner - the Lib Dems have been calling for this for years. 💰 They cost tens of millions of pounds, money that could otherwise be used to fund more frontline officers.

📢 The Lib Dems are calling for a 5% VAT cut for hospitality venues and for the removal of the renewable levy from people's energy bills. 📈 This would inject £12bn back into high street businesses and put £270 back into people's pockets for them to spend on occasional extras.

I welcome the Government's decision to reconsider issuing compensation to #WASPI women. Hundreds of thousands of women were failed when the age at which they could claim their state pension was changed without their knowledge. This includes more than 3,000 women in North East Hampshire.

🏃Sport offers fantastic physical, mental, and social benefits. But we heard last week that women and girls are being put off at every level because of the abuse they face. 🤝 The Women and Equalities select committee heard how we must do more to ensure that sport remains open to everyone.

The BBC isn't perfect, and it makes mistakes, but it's also a vital national institution and trusted source of news for millions across the globe. This should be an opportunity to improve the BBC, not destroy it.

We will remember those who fought and died for our freedom. It was a pleasure to join the services in Odiham and Fleet today for the services of remembrance.

The Government has announced changes to the National Curriculum. There’s some good in there, like stronger arts and digital education, which the Lib Dems have called for. But it’s not clear how these changes will be funded and I’m concerned already overloaded schools will be asked to do even more.

(1) 🩺 With patient numbers rising faster than available resources, GPs are stretched incredibly thin. 🌋 Despite working harder than ever to provide for their communities, for many this pressure is simply too much. 📉 And, unfortunately for patients, this has had a severe impact on local services.

(1/3) 😱 During last summer's flash flooding, we were hit by nearly 2 months' worth of rainfall in less than 1 hour! ☔ Extreme weather events like this are just one of the many ways in which climate change will impact our area.

Nigel Farage wants to take away your rights. The ECHR has secured our freedoms as we know them, from torture (1978), to the press (1979), to sexual expression (1981), and privacy (2025). Today, I voted to defend these rights.

👚This morning, MPs are Wearing it Pink in Parliament following Friday's #WearItPink Day, which raises money and awareness for Breast Cancer Now. 🩷In recent decades, we've made amazing progress on breast cancer detection, treatment, and support. 💪Let's not stop now! Together, we can beat cancer.

🎯𝐍𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐋𝐘 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄! The Victoria Hall is so close to its fundraising goal of £40,000, having already raised an incredible £38,000 thanks to the wonderful support of the local community.

Phew! Back to Parliament this week and it's been a hive of activity. This week, I: 👩‍⚕️ Visited Richmond Surgery to learn more about the work they do. 🚓 Met with the Policing Minister to discuss issues raised by constituents including rural crime, speeding, theft and police recruitment.

💉 Glad to have received my flu vaccine this week, nice and early ahead of this year's flu season! 💙 Scientists work very hard to to ensure our vaccines are safe and up-to-date. ⭐ Vaccines protect vulnerable members of our community and reduce pressure on our GPs, pharmacies, and hospitals.
