🎉Positive update on the Grange Estate Clubhouse 👇 Haulfryn has confirmed its commitment to providing a replacement clubhouse facility on the Grange Estate.

A round-up of a busy couple weeks spent working hard for local residents: 🏥 Met with leadership teams at Basingstoke Hospital and Frimley ICB to hear the latest on local NHS provision. 🖋️ Pushed for a replacement clubhouse for the Grange Estate with the owners, site managers and on ITV.

(1) I always try to enter meetings in good faith, and so, I don't appreciate being misled by people hoping to keep me quiet. Only days after the Trustees of the Grange Estate assured me they would work to find a compromise, do they confirm that bulldozers will be entering the estate within weeks.

(1/2) It's World Cancer Day, today, and the Government has announced its National Cancer Plan. I'm very pleased to finally see some real ambition when it comes to beating cancer, particularly the commitment to hit the 62-day target for treatment following a referral.

Here's an update on what I've been doing this week to help with some of the issues affecting local people: 🏘️ Visited the Grange Estate Clubhouse, in Church Crookham, and supported residents to delay the clubhouse demolition. 🚜 Hosted a farming roundtable meeting to discuss issues affecting farmers.

🎉 𝐂𝐀𝐒𝐄𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐊 𝐖𝐈𝐍! 🎉 I'm thrilled to share that demolition of the Grange Estate Clubhouse, which was due to take place on Monday, is now on hold. After speaking with the site's Trustees, they have agreed to work with me, residents and the management company on a solution that works for everyone.

(1) A very disappointing response from the Government today on the topic of WASPI Women. Ministers have admitted that millions of women, including thousands in NE Hampshire, were wronged. And yet, they're refusing to issue compensation to those affected, because it "would not be practical".

🛜 In this day and age, nobody should be without broadband. We rely on it to stay in touch with our families, run our businesses and access healthcare - you name it. 📡 This means that reliable access to the internet is essential, and yet our local broadband is far from reliable.

(1) First, Grange Estate residents lost their allotment, then they lost their green, and now they're losing their community centre. This is the last space for residents to gather, socialise, and take part in the local community, which is so strong here.

(1) It’s clear we need to increase the strength of our military, but funding this is a challenge. This is why I support the Liberal Democrats proposed new 'defence bonds'. These 2-3 year bonds would help us ramp-up our military capacity, paying out the same interest as regular government bonds.

NEW: Suella Braverman has defected to Reform UK, shocking the many people who were sure that she had already.

The highlights from a very busy last 2 weeks as your MP:

(1) Appeasement doesn't work with bullies like Trump; it just encourages them to push for more and more. America is not behaving like an ally – we need reliable, respectable partners, not a childish narcissist who throws his toys out of the pram whenever he's told no.

(1) 😤 Unbelievable. As if the previous delay wasn't enough, Basingstoke Hospital is now unlikely to be completed until at least 2045 – 15 years later than its original 2030 target. 🚧 The buildings just can’t sustain that; it'll cost £52.9 million just to clear the current maintenance backlog.

(1) 📱 Every day there are more shocking reports about the dangers of social media to children. I often hear from local people, in my Select Committee inquiries, and, as a parent myself. So, I deeply understand these concerns. 📝 The Lib Dems have developed a new plan to keep our children safe.

Farnborough Airport has applied to increase the number of their weekend and non-weekday flights per year by 4,600 a year and amend the weight of permitted aircraft from 50,000 – 80,000kg to 55,000-80,000kg, among other changes. I do not support Farnborough Airport expansion.

↩️ The Government have announced a U-turn on their mandatory Digital ID scheme. ⚠️ A mandatory digital ID system would threaten our right to privacy and would deepen digital exclusion. The plan to force this on the public was doomed to fail from the start, and I'm glad to see it go.

🏥 Corridor care is degrading and dangerous for hosptial patients, and exhausting and stressful for hospital staff. 🚨 It is a national emergency and it is devastating our NHS - we need a real plan to fix it. 🔶 The Lib Dems are the only party offering the bold solutions to end the A&E crisis.

💧 South East Water provide water to the vast majority of homes in North East Hampshire. ⛔ However, across the South East, their service has proven to be unreliable, and currently over 30,000 homes have been left without water. Today, the Government had to respond to an Urgent Question on this.

After six years of investigation, the independent Ombudsman was clear: the government failed women, not informing them about their rise in the state pension age. Years of reviews, multiple debates and various responses from the Government. Yet we are still waiting.

Small businesses have been hammered. 🔨High energy bills 🔨Increased costs from suppliers 🔨Employer National Insurance Contributions hiked 🔨And higher business rates for many following the budget.

📈 Changes to business rates were included in November's budget, resulting in huge hikes to the rates for many local businesses. 🍻 There are rumours the Government will climb down on this for hospitality, which is welcome news.

(1/4) ❌ We were promised a new hospital by 2030, but we have been let down. 🚧 First by Boris Johnson and the Conservatives, who never set funding aside, and now by Labour, who have pushed it back to the 2040s. 🚨 This is despite all signs pointing to the fact that a new hospital simply cannot wait.

🌾🎉 A huge win for farming today with the very welcome news that the Government will be raising the inheritance tax threshold for farmers from £1m to £2.5m. 🚜The badly thought-out policy was set to damage family farms - which we all rely on for our food security.

The Government seems determined to take away our democracy again in next May's local elections. After last year's County Council elections were cancelled, any further delay would be unacceptable. I hope that local Councils will stand up to them and ensure local elections go ahead as planned.

🎉 Campaign Win! 💧 Protection for chalk stream rivers has been a key campaign and I've called for this many times. So I'm pleased the Government is introducing this.

💔Heartbreaking news today from places of learning and celebration.

Many of you have written in to me about issues with parcels delivered by Evri. Parcels not being delivered... or delivered to the wrong address.. or unclear communication. Even parcels being opened or delivered with items missing - this is not acceptable, especially during the run-up to Christmas.

(1/2) The budget has left businesses high and dry. One way we can grow the economy and get better public services without raising taxes on working people would be to forge a new UK-EU customs union.

It used to be cards, now it’s parcels. The Royal Mail sorting office in Fleet is a hive of activity, as I saw yesterday when I popped in for a quick visit. At this time of year, there are about 2.5 times the usual number of parcels being posted. (1/3)

🅿️ Just another quick reminder that it's free to park in council-run car parks tomorrow (Saturday 6th). This is being offered by both Hart and Basingstoke and Deane councils, as part of their support for Small Business Saturday. 🙌 What a great opportunity to get out and support local businesses!

⚠️ Hampshire Mayoral elections delayed! 💥 The level of indecision and disorganisation demonstrates the Government's incompetence. Either the Government lacks a vision for devolution or the capability to deliver it well. 🗳️ Labour is once again denying local people from participating in democracy.

(1) 😤 Unbelievable. ⚠️ The Government's plans to restrict jury trials are a violation of our fundamental rights, and undermine the very foundation of our legal system. ❌ All this to reduce our court backlog by 30,000 cases, which will hardly make an impact with case loads closing in on 100,000.

Thank you to the students of Greenfields Junior School for their excellent questions during their trip to Parliament, last week, and to the staff who made this visit possible. It's so important that we get young people involved in politics and it's nice to see our future is in good hands!

(1) 🚜 Today's #budget needs to make things right with British farmers. This government has hit farmers hard, significantly and repeatedly: 💰 First they implemented the Family Farm Tax, 📉 Then they cut the farming budget by £100mn, ♻️ And then they closed the Sustainable Farming Incentive.

A woman is killed by a partner or ex-partner once every 3 days in the UK. This far exceeds the number of people killed by terrorism in the UK over the past 20 years. In fact, more women are killed by a partner or ex-partner each year than the number of people killed in the 7 July bombing in 2005.
