I’m excited about the Street Fighter movie set to be released next year! Of course, it makes me think back to the 1994 version, which I loved as a kid despite its silliness. I got this screening cassette at Portland Retro Gaming Expo’s VHS swap last year! I hadn’t seen a screening tape before. 🧵 1/?

Happy 40th birthday to Super Mario Bros., which was released in Japan on the Famicom on 9/13/85 🥳 This was the first NES game I ever played and beat. We took turns playing at my daycare (before I received it as a gift from my grandparents). We were only given one chance through until a game over.

Happy 36th birthday to the Zelda cartoon, released 9/8/89! 🥳 I unabashedly love the 1989 Zelda cartoon and eagerly awaited it to air every Friday in place of the Super Mario Bros. time slot. Only 13 episodes that were roughly 15 minutes in length were produced because both were not renewed. 🧵 1/?

Happy 36th Birthday to The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! It first aired on September 4, 1989 🥳 I still have my childhood tape of “King Mario of Cramalot,” a parody of the classic King Arthur legend with a golden plunger rather than a sword 🤭 The show was based on Super Mario Bros. 1 and 2. 🧵1/?

As a kid, I spent most of my allowance on gaming merchandise. There was a comic shop down the street from my Dad’s house, and one day I was overjoyed to find Mortal Kombat comics. I couldn’t pass up Malibu’s ridiculous Battlewave issue featuring Shao Khan’s marriage to Sonya… 🧵 1/?
