Abortion care is now illegal in North Dakota. The ND Supreme Court didn’t rule the ban constitutional, it simply failed to reach the four-justice majority needed to strike it down. The outcome is still a near-total abortion ban that puts politics ahead of patient care.

For Indigenous communities, reproductive healthcare access is shaped by geography, underfunded health systems, and federal policy. One of the most impactful policies is the Hyde Amendment, first introduced in 1976.

In this year’s elections, voters were clear: anti-trans fear campaigns didn’t work. In Virginia and New Jersey, Democrats responded directly to anti-trans attacks, and won statewide. They didn’t sidestep the issue.

While the government is shut down, the Senate is quietly advancing Trump’s agenda, confirming four anti-abortion extremists to lifetime seats on the federal bench. That includes William Mercer, now appointed to the U.S. District Court for the District of Montana.

In Virginia’s governor’s race, abortion rights are once again on the ballot. Democrat Abigail Spanberger is drawing a clear line: in states that restrict abortion, women die.

Most Americans agree abortion shouldn’t be a crime. But too many lawmakers are ignoring that truth, and writing laws that punish pregnant people, healthcare providers, and even those who help someone access abortion care.

June 24 marks three years since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, eliminating the federal constitutional standard that had protected the right to abortion. With no federal protection for abortion, the map now tells the story

Half of Montana is considered a maternity care desert. That means no hospitals, no birth centers, and no OB providers in HALF of our counties. Montana has one of the longest average drive times to reach care at 23 minutes. In some counties, birthing parents must drive over an hour.

We don’t know how many people have died because of abortion bans—because no one is tracking it. Since Roe fell, at least 10 people have died from being denied abortion care. But without a national system to track these tragedies, most go uncounted.

A new @propublica.org report confirms what we’ve feared: abortion bans are putting lives at risk. After Texas banned abortion, rates of life-threatening infection during miscarriage rose by more than 50%. Doctors delayed care—afraid of prosecution.

Black women in the U.S. are 3–4x more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women. Systemic racism, lack of access to care, and being dismissed in medical settings all contribute to these unfortunate and unnecessary outcomes.

Abortion bans are costing lives. A new study from Johns Hopkins found that 478 more infants died in states with abortion bans than would have without those restrictions. That’s a 5.6% spike in infant mortality.

Providers are under attack—and now, so are the protections that keep them safe. Over the weekend, Minnesota lawmaker Melissa Hortman and her husband were killed. Two more legislators were shot. And a hit list with abortion providers was found in the suspect’s car.

Even after 58% of voters passed Constitutional Initiative 128, enshrining abortion rights in our state, we are sounding the alarm.

Abortion bans don’t stop extremists, they empower them. Since the fall of Roe, violence against abortion providers has surged: arsons, break-ins, death threats. And the @nationalabortionfederation says it wasn’t a slow rise it was immediate.

The people of Missouri made it very clear: They wanted abortion rights (at least until fetal viability). Alas, the Missouri Supreme Court doesn’t seem to be inclined to listen.

"Let me be plain: this is a grotesque distortion of medical ethics and human decency," Islam Parkes wrote. "That any law in Georgia could be interpreted to require a brain-dead woman's body to be artificially maintained as a fetal incubator is not only medically unsound — it is inhumane."
