Doula coverage in Montana Medicaid is back on track, but it's still not safe. After advocates, lawmakers, and community members pushed back, the MT Dept. of Public Health & Human Services reversed course and is now moving forward with implementing doula reimbursement through Medicaid.

April is Medicaid Awareness Month. What's happening in Montana (and across the country) right now will have impacts that extend far beyond the month.

In 1972, 100 Montanans gathered to rewrite the state's constitution from scratch. They were teachers, lawyers, farmers, and everyday citizens. They debated, disagreed, and ultimately signed a document on March 22, 1972 that still governs Montana today.

The 2025 Legislature made it harder to put issues on your ballot. Republican lawmakers passed new rules that specifically target paid signature gatherers - the people who help campaigns reach the signature thresholds required to put an issue before voters.

The SAVE Act is being framed as “election security.” But let’s be clear: this bill would create new barriers to voting for millions of eligible Americans. The proposal would require documentary proof of citizenship, like a passport or birth certificate, just to register to vote.

Montana’s Constitution is the backbone of our freedom and we’ve been clear about this in our work: Our Constitution. Our Choice.

January 22 is Roe v. Wade Day, the anniversary of the 1973 Supreme Court decision that shaped abortion access for nearly 50 years. But Roe was never enough. Even under Roe, access wasn’t equal and state restrictions created barriers that pushed care out of reach for many.

Abortion will remain legal in Wyoming after the state Supreme Court struck down laws that include the country’s first explicit ban on abortion pills, ruling Tuesday that they violate the state constitution. #abortion #reprohealth

In this year’s elections, voters were clear: anti-trans fear campaigns didn’t work. In Virginia and New Jersey, Democrats responded directly to anti-trans attacks, and won statewide. They didn’t sidestep the issue.

In Virginia’s governor’s race, abortion rights are once again on the ballot. Democrat Abigail Spanberger is drawing a clear line: in states that restrict abortion, women die.

June 24 marks three years since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, eliminating the federal constitutional standard that had protected the right to abortion. With no federal protection for abortion, the map now tells the story

Half of Montana is considered a maternity care desert. That means no hospitals, no birth centers, and no OB providers in HALF of our counties. Montana has one of the longest average drive times to reach care at 23 minutes. In some counties, birthing parents must drive over an hour.

We don’t know how many people have died because of abortion bans—because no one is tracking it. Since Roe fell, at least 10 people have died from being denied abortion care. But without a national system to track these tragedies, most go uncounted.
