Our school district faces a lot of hard budget choices. They must close a bunch of schools, some of which are at 1/3 capacity. They must cut transportation costs. My message to every Board member I could corner—all proffered choices are better than kicking the can down the road for another decade.

If you ask a bunch of lawyers whether doing something that’s morally repugnant might actually be legal, and and they all say “No, got God’s sake no,” but you finally find one who says the answer is “complicated,” don’t do that thing.

One easy thing faculty & admins can do to signal to potential students that you aren’t under the MAGA thumb—put pronouns in signature lines, Zoom name boxes & official social media bios. That makes schools that ban pronouns stand out, & it’s a noticeable signal to LGBTQ+ students & their families.

Update: It turns out that to avoid age verification, you only have to use a VPN when you open the app. As long as the Bluesky app stays open, it sticks with the location it receives from the ISP when it opened. Minimizing the app doesn’t reset it. Just closing it or it closing on its own.
