I first saw this miniseries as a child, and it stunned me. A young superstar sets out to find the mother who abandoned her, driven by revenge. But the story goes far deeper. It is about luxury and downfall, ambition, betrayal, and loneliness. If you have not seen it, watch it.

Sherlock Holmes is Holmes before the darkness and special effects. Black-and-white, calm, almost theatrical but alive and deeply human. Here he’s not a cold genius, but a charming intellectual. And that’s the beauty of it. This is early television, made for storytelling not noise.
