For better or for worse, what Jimmy Kimmel said about the Kirk situation wasn't a "joke," and it also wasn't anything negative about Kirk, and it wasn't macabre, it was just a truth that Trump personally disliked.

KEY to the story about ABC suspending Kimmel's show: Nexstar and Sinclair, two big owners of ABC-affiliated stations, both need FCC approval for pending deals. With a lot of $$ on the line, both have reason to curry favor with the Trump admin. Both decided to yank Kimmel's show.

Trump is out here gleefully posting about Kimmel getting pulled after Colbert was cancelled and that that leaves Seth Meyers and Jimmy Fallon, openly encouraging NBC to cancelling them as well. Unsurprisingly none of the execs have a backbone.

I’ve listened to this clip and read the transcript several times, along with MAGA’s interpretation. Kimmel wasn’t saying the shooter was MAGA. What he was pointing out is that MAGA’s first instinct was to immediately cast blame and point fingers at everyone else. That’s not an attack, it’s facts.

Someone told me to listen again to Kimmel's remarks, and indeed he *didn't* comment on Robinson or his family but MAGAs' aim of identifying Robinson as anything *but* MAGA—which MAGAs must admit is their line (e.g., they don't want anyone discussing how his formative years were in a MAGA household.)

ABC just canceled Jimmy Kimmel for anti-Trump remarks. Paramount axed Colbert for the same. People are losing jobs for eulogizing Charlie Kirk with his own words — the words of a bigot. Independent journalism has never been more vital. We face threats daily, but truth depends on us.
