Go away, this is my trunk!! That poor duiker is certainly wondering what he did to deserve this! It's not often that we get to see cross-species interactions, especially not such funny ones!

On our site called EternalVictory in Western Africa, we got to see some forest buffalos again. They are the smallest of the African buffalo species and live in rain forests.

At this site (Eternal Victory in Outamba Kilimi National Park, Sierra Leone) we can see chimps using tools to both fish the algae from the bottom of the river beds and scoop it from the surface. Even the small infants are practicing this important type of tool use while overseen by their mothers.

Hippos roam their surroundings nightly to graze. Did you know that they can reach a maximum speed of 30 k / 19 mph?

Also male bushbucks want to look attractive. "Aren't I handsome, ma chère?" Unfortunately we haven't heard her answer... 😏

The cameras at our sites are placed to record chimps. That's why we get a somewhat funny perspective of the larger animals, like this elephant bachelor group.

The stark contrast between the pale fur on a honey badger's upper head and the dark fur on its face contributes to its intimidating visual display, possibly acting as a warning to predators and rivals.

Despite its name, the Checkered Elephant Shrew is not a true shrew and is more closely related to elephants and aardvarks. Their long, mobile snout is used to sniff and probe through leaf litter and undergrowth to locate prey.

We only get a back-side view of this Water Chevrotain, but we don't see many of them at C&S, so any view is a great view. They are shy and extremely difficult to observe in the wild due to their secretive, silent behavior and preference for dense cover.

We never get tired of watching hog tails twirl.

Yellow-backed Duiker tend to have more pronounced tufts of hair between their ears than other duiker species, possibly reflecting its larger size and more solitary behavior, where such visual cues may be more important.

There are several genet species within range of Prismatic Expanse so we can't be certain which one this might be. We just think it is beautiful!

Only a few spider species have eyeshine, such as wolf spiders. Whatever type of spider this is, it is seriously huge!

Having a prehensile tail has its advantages when searching this tree for insects. Now is that practical or is this practical? 😊

Whatever scary thing they see on the path, these Black Guineafowl are determined to plow through it rather than go around it. Silly birds! (And did you see the little chick behind the first bird in the line?)

Galagos are active at night, using their large eyes and acute hearing to navigate and forage in darkness. They live almost entirely in trees, using their strong hind limbs to leap between branches. Some species can jump more than 2 meters in a single bound.

Some animals are fearful of our cameras and some animals are attracted to them. This curious little female Defassa Waterbuck is quite a camera hog. She poses in front of this camera for 10 minutes!

Meet Jean Valjean, or JVJ as he is affectionately known around camp. Site Researcher FeralBo celebrated when JVJ showed up on the trail camera because lion are considered extinct in Sierra Leone according to current literature. It's the first lion we've seen since moving to our new platform!

This path in the Prismatic Expanse forest is a favorite of a new-to-us subspecies of honey badger called Black Ratel (Mellivora capensis cottoni). We've filmed some with white-tipped tails, such as these, which is also unusual.

This beautiful Golden monkey is a very rare and endangered species. It lives only here in Rwanda's Gishwati Forest and in the neighboring Virunga Volcanoes.

Happy World Chimpanzee Day! These chimps are eating the wood from this tree's rotten trunk. In addition to eating wood, we think they are also munching on worms, maggots, beetles, and other creatures who are also there for the feast.

This Guinea Turaco with the beautiful red wings enjoys its bath like most birds do. We just almost never see one with such gorgeous colors! This one is from our Sunlit Ruins site in West Africa.

The view is a bit hazy but we don't get to see the forest buffaloes often so close to the camera. Enjoy!

Everybody likes the African Civets. They look so cool with their masked faces, stripes and different patterns.

This is 'Jinco', a female elephant with a bad eye. She was named by @amymarshal, a dedicated volunteer at chimp&see!

These are two male juvenile adolescent chimps matched and named 'Kijani' and 'Mamaki' by our incredible community scientist chimp matching team! They seem to be best buddies as we have seen them together several times.

Aah-ohh that feels sooo good! Those giant forest hogs are enjoying the jungle spa! Hogs wallow in mud to keep themselves cool. When the mud dries on their skin it cools them down.

The large Handsome Francolin is very handsome, don't you think? They prefer to live in montane bamboo forests, which is becoming a problem for them because this habitat is rare and patchy along the Albertine Rift in Central Africa.

Look carefully at the L'hoest's monkey in the back and you can spot the infant that is clinging to her stomach.

With its cheek pouch still empty, this pouched rat is also easy to identify by its tail, which is white at the end half.

We are now matching servals based on their spot patterns, just as we have previously done with leopards when we find them! At Chimp&See we also match and name duikers, bushbucks, red river hogs, and any animal whose distinctive appearance makes it possible to identify them in other clip sequences.

Side-striped jackal are rarely seen in daytime, so it's exciting to watch this color clip of a mother leading her three young pups.

Hamerkops make huge nests, sometimes 1.5 m (4 ft 11 in) across, and a mated pair will build several of them each year. That requires a LOT of twigs!

These chimps were happily munching the wood they worked hard to dig out of that rotten tree. Suddenly, they hear something and POOF, they flee. This chimp mother believes that climbing the nearest tree will be safe enough for now for her infant.

The name Monitor Lizard, or Lacerta monitor, may have been based on a mistaken idea by Linnaeus that the German word Waran for Lizard was connected to "warnen" (to warn), leading him to incorrectly Latinize it as monitor.

Usually the bats we see in C&S videos use echolocation for orientation. This bat here though has bright eyeshine and thus belongs to the Megabats, also called Fruit Bats, and it obviously uses the light of the camera for hunting.

This male bushbuck appears to dig the soil with his horns, but the behavior, called “soil horning,” is actually a way he can advertise his presence.
