Iron bay window on Webster Road Ink and charcoal on board 2025 (15cm x 30cm) Today’s small painting is of an abandoned house in Wavertree. The bay windows on these houses are distinctive, supported with chunky cast iron columns, and these are the main focus of the piece. #liverpool #art

“Port Sunlight” Chalk, ink and charcoal 2025 (55cm x 39cm) Port Sunlight dates from the early 20th century, and was built as model housing by Lord Lever for the workers of his Soap factory. The factory is still running and the village of 900 listed buildings is cared for by a Trust. #art

“The Mission” Charcoal, chalk and ink 2025 (55cm x 39cm) The Mission Hall on Earle Rd looks to date from the 1890’s. It’s utilitarian architecture, with a whiff of boiled cabbage about it. The hall is now the Earle Road Hub, an evangelical church for Liverpool’s Chinese community. #liverpool #art

“Advanced Prosthetics” Charcoal, chalk and ink 2025 (55cm x 39cm) Earle Road in Liverpool dates from the 1880’s and these victorian shops are dated 1894. The Advanced Prosthetics Dental Laboratory permanently closed in 2023. #liverpool #art

“Love cottage” Chalk, ink and charcoal 2025 (55cm x 29cm) This is one of a handful of stables on Ullet Road, built along with the very large 1870’s mansions around Sefton Park. It’s modest but charming, and perhaps this is what has inspired someone to spray paint LOVE on it. #liverpool #art

“Day’s end at Garrick Street” Chalk, charcoal and ink 2025 (55cm x 39cm) Garrick St is one of many Victorian streets off Smithdown Road. In 2015 it was part of the council’s £1 house initiative. Quite a few of homes are now lived in, though for now sadly not these. #liverpool #art

“Summer ruin” Chalk, charcoal and ink 2025 (55cm x 39cm) At its peak, the Littlewoods building employed over 30,000 people - most of them women. Only the brick and concrete skeleton now remains - merging with the enormous scaffolding cradle that supports it following the 2018 fire. #liverpool #art

“Fire Temple” Charcoal, chalk and ink (55cm x 39cm) The Littlewoods Pools Building was built in 1938. The firm left in 1994 and the vast building has been empty since 2003. Following a fire in 2018 the central tower has been demolished and the remains are cradled in scaffolding. #liverpool #art

“The Dead House” Charcoal, chalk and ink 2025 (55cm x 39cm) The Earle in Wavertree was built in 1885 and closed in 2011 - also losing the top of its tower and chimneys. It is now converted to flats. It is also known as ‘The Dead House’ after its role as a store for dead bodies during the blitz.

“We will not be Reformed” Charcoal, chalk and ink 2025 (55cm x 39cm) The very large villas that surround the boundaries of Sefton Park were built in the 1870’s. They are now home to hotels and institutions, or split into rather nice flats - like this Italianate stucco example. #liverpool #art

“End of Terrace” Charcoal, chalk and ink 2025 (55cm x 39cm) The houses of Webster Road were built in the late Victorian period. Quite a few of the houses are currently empty, and in this case one has been demolished. #liverpool #cityscape

“The Parkside Hotel at twilight” Charcoal, chalk and ink 2025 (55cm x 39cm) The Parkside Hotel on Smithdown Road dates from the middle of the 19th century. The building appears to have been disused since the 1970’s and is illuminated by the neighbouring takeaways. #liverpool #art

“Black beauty” Charcoal, chalk and ink 2025 (55cm x 39cm) Speke Hall in Liverpool, owned by the National Trust, is regarded as one of the finest Tudor Manor Houses in the country. The black and white timber frames I’ve focused on here appear as strikingly graphic patterns in the landscape.
