Hot hot hot. Today’s painting is of the Chester High Cross in glorious, incendiary, technicolour. The Chester Rows date back over 700 year, but almost everything here is a sugary Victorian confection. Fun to draw though. I think this might work nicely as a print? #Chester #art

I was blown away by Chester Castle, and the complex of Greek revival buildings that Pevsner describes as the finest in England - the focus of my painting. In the background are the remains of the medieval castle, in the foreground, the equestrian statue of Viscount Combermere. #chester #painting

We visited Hamilton Square on Friday. In my painting the classicism of the Georgian square contrasts with the romantic campanile of Hamilton Square station. In the distance is the art-deco ventilator of the Queen’s tunnel. Birkenhead doesn’t get enough love. It’s an architecture feast. #painting

This painting of Dale Street was done today. The town hall dome is cast in sharp relief, while surrounding buildings are diffuse or in the cool shade. The corner of the Liver Building can be seen in the distant haze. #liverpool #painting #art

I spent some time this morning working a bit on my painting of St Andrew’s church - warming up the sky, fixing a few building details and getting the light of the low sun more to my liking. Finished? Who knows? I’m finding with canvases hanging around there’s always more fiddling. #art #liverpool

Today’s painting is of two Victorian city centre pubs, the Midland and the Central. The Midland is more restrained early Victorian than its later more showy neighbour, but they make a nice pair. In this painting I’ve particularly focused on the Midland’s ornate front. #liverpool #art #architecture

Today’s cottage painting. After yesterday’s very high chroma piece, this piece dials the saturation down. The inclusion of an ornamental garden bench suggested emphasising pastel shades. Rather liking the wistful, ultra-domesticity of these pieces.
