Trump's trial balloon to let companies only report earnings 2x a year appears to be picking up steam. Earlier today, SEC Chair Atkins was on @cnbc.com saying this "would be a good way forward".

Besides, there's an easy enough solution for companies that don't want to report quarterly earnings: stay (or go) private. You can't ask for money from investors and expect nothing in return. Being public and trying to avoid reporting is like expecting a unicorn and a puppy for Xmas. (2/2)

In a world of stupid ideas coming out of the WH, suggesting that public companies only report twice a year (instead of quarterly) seems like one of the stupidest ones. Earnings management is real, but investors in public companies deserve clear information on a quarterly basis. (1/2)
