Tonight's movie is one I've been seeking out for a long time and that I just found an hour ago. The last film of Alain Resnais' classic period, its premiere at Cannes was derailed by the May 1968 uprising, and it has never received its due. One of the best films about time travel.

Tonight's movie is something I just bought an hour ago. While it's not my favourite film from Powell and Pressburger, it is through no fault of their own. I've never been able to connect with the Hoffman opera. But, by God, it is a beautiful film.

Tonight's movie is a mess. Reshot, recut and not available on Blu Ray. And a Montgomery Clift performance damaged by the horrific car accident he had in the middle of filming. I have an Australian DVD that is cut to 160 minutes. Hoping the transfer isn't too bad.

Tonight's movie is a fun little spy romp that I wish had done better and become the start of a franchise. While Hammer is now persona non grata, I would watch the hell out of a GIRL FROM UNCLE film starring Alicia Vikander. They missed a trick by not renaming her April Dancer at film's end.

Tonight's movie is a film noir from 1956 directed by Paul Henreid. According to Henreid the film was recut by the studio, ruining it. He also said that Franz Waxman agreed to score the film, but Herbert Yates of Republic gave it to Les Baxter. I like Baxter so I'll be paying attention to the score

Tonight's movie has been pretty much dismissed. I love the Del Toro films, so I'll try to keep an open mind.

Tonight's movie is 1964's CRUEL GUN STORY, a heist film from Nikkatsu. It stars chipmunk cheeked Joe Shishido, better known here for his roles in Seijun Suzuki yakuza films.

Tonight's movie is a Western from 1956 from the underappreciated director Delmer Daves. His 3:10 TO YUMA is a movie I am quite fond of, so I'll be looking for some of the bravura camera shots he used there. And you can't go wrong with Richard Widmark.

Tonight's movie from 2018 is one of my favourite films from the last 10 years. Pawlikowski won Best Director at Cannes and Zal won Outstanding Cinematography from the ASC. Lost to ROMA at the Oscars. I could make a case for either one. The last two lines of the picture are fantastic.

Tonight's movie marks the beginning of the long collaboration between director Luis Buñuel and screenwriter Jean-Claude Carrière. I remember being quite taken with it when I saw it at a retrospective 30 years ago. Going to have to do a back-to-back rewatch with the 1946 Renoir version.
