Its interesting that in the late 90s there was a market for reprints of the most obscure and convoluted books by Jack KerouacâSchwartzâs in Milwaukee would stock them allâand theyâve mostly gone out of print since then, titles like Satori in Paris or Doctor Sax.

Musical and literary amnesia: every one of these genres has medieval roots and was widespread in the early modern era, but there is a tendency in literary studies to credit their invention to BĂŒrger and Goethe and leave it at that.

R.I.P. Béla Tarr. In 2011, I ran into him wandering outside, wearing a black shirt in the blinding sunlight on Hollywood Boulevard, moments before the Turin Horse screened at AFI Fest.

Interesting/encouraging to see local candidates connecting (a) the surge of energy prices for consumers to (b) the unregulated data center boom, (c) the environmental threat it poses and (d) government divestment from renewable energy

In Cologne in summer 2001 I went to a cafe west of the Altstadt that had white walls covered in large pen-writing. There was counter seating in the center where I sat down for breakfast and on the menu they had funny breakfasts like the âStadt-FrĂŒhstĂŒckâ which was I believe a coffee and an aspirin.
