Today I learnt #AI can’t generate images of left handed people writing, we tried many prompts and had a great discussion with my students as to why that may be. They want to know what else it can’t do. Have you come across any other examples to use with students? #EduSkyAU

A3: in my last role I was asked what I wanted to do next, I’d done the next logical job and knew it wasn’t that. That conversation had me reflect on what I was enjoying doing and ended up seeing me pivot to my Tech based role from an EaLD one. 1 yr later and i know it was the right choice.

I have loved seeing people run with new tech ideas I have coached them through using, then sharing this knowledge and helping their colleagues use whatever tool it was. That always makes my day! #EduSkyAU

I was hired as a grad by someone who became, and still is an amazing mentor for me. She taught me how to lead with kindness and empathy and made me a better teacher and leader and has also become a great friend. #EduSkyAU

#HolidayReads 12. Death of the Author by @nnedi.bsky.social I was SO excited this came out on my last week of school holidays and devoured it. Two stories in one, two authors in one. Everything I’ve read by Nnedi has been amazing and left me thinking and this is no exception. #BookSky

#HolidayReads 10. The Mighty Red, by Louise Erdrich. A beautiful snapshot of farming community in America (and the impact of chemical). This is the third novel I’ve read by Erdrich and they have all been fantastic. 1 week of holidays to go! #BookSky

#HolidayReads 7. The Mires by @tinamakereti.bsky.social The best book I’ve read all year. I read it in 48 hours and it seems apt that some was at the beach, since water is such an important character to the story. Beautifully written dealing with important themes. You should read it. #BookSky

#HolidayReads 6 Wandering Stars by Tommy Orange. A generational narrative of a Cheyenne family, which is a quasi-sequel to his book There There. I couldn’t help but draw parallels between the effects of colonisation on Native American and Australia’s First Nations’ peoples. #BookSky

Kate in Year 8, wrote to her favourite author, who wrote back & sent tissues for the tears his books caused. Kate in Year 10 wagged school (with permission from her English teacher) to get her book signed by him, and still has it. Many happies became a saying amongst my friends. #ValeJohnMarsden

#HolidayReads 4. Orbital by Samatha Harvey. Essentially a day in the life of astronauts orbiting and reflecting on the Earth. Beautifully written #BookSky

#HolidayReads 3. Sea Change by Gina Chung. Octopus seem to be having a moment. This is about a girl who works at an aquarium and looks after one called Dolores, that her now missing father found. Her life is a bit of a mess and she’s trying to deal with it. It was quite enjoyable. #BookSky

#HolidayReads 2. The Unfinished Harauld Hughes by Richard Ayoade. A made up playwrite who looks like Ayoade, and the story of a made up doco finding out why a made up movie never got finished. Ayoade is now actually writing the made up plays that he said Hughes wrote. Very meta. #BookSky

#holidayreads 1. My Brother’s Ashes are in a Sandwich Bag by @michellebrasier.bsky.social Poignant and funny reflection on how to live when surrounded by the death of loved ones and facing your own mortality. Sounds heavy but was also funny and sweet and filled with playlist recommendations.

It was lovely to end the school year by receiving a Certificate of Recognition for my contribution to EaL/D at the SCSA Thankyou Function tonight. Whilst I have moved away from teaching EaL/D this year, it is a joy to continue working with such passionate educators. #EduSky #EduSkyAU
