If I had to list the fields that people who approach me about storytelling are typically most often best suited for. Communications /Journalism Social Work / Counseling Fine Arts / Theatre History English / Writing Law

I recall 1 person as an example, that wanted me to help them become a storytelling star. No questions about my struggle or how to navigate education , how I became a Fulbright scholar or how to be taken seriously. My philosophy is “Live the life. then talk about” won’t hear how over saturated it is

I can’t mentor people who won’t see education as fundamental. My experience is that people become really good at being amateurs

The fear of blame and responsibility can be so great for some folks they are more distressed by having a finger pointed at them as a Black person who had a bullet shot in their eye.

Saying God is on their side is an attempt to provide moral cover for Conservatives and Republicans who can’t openly admit their views are not based on logic or or but emotional ideas of racial superiority, jealousy, ignorance and fear of blame, or responsibility.

First they attack the legal framework of the military by attacking JAG officers , now they go after the Chaplins because of a moral framework that calls for unity and respect for diversity meaning Christian’s only, no religious exceptions. Not much left but a return to a segregated military.

For me it’s if not invited I don’t attend, if not asked I don’t talk, if invited late I will decline, lastly, I recognize I am not special and will not entertain the idea that I could be.

So who went to war to maintain slavery, who created Black codes, who created Jim Crow laws, who created separate but unequal schools, the convict lease system, Red lining, who lynched thousands of Blacks and burned down their towns. This is American history and we won’t forget a damn thing.
