By renaming it the Gulf of America, all the power of naming a location goes to Mexico, because maps are made from the perspective of travel not ownership. People leaving Mexico will head to the Gulf of America just like taking Harrison Rd meant I’m headed to Harrison farm.

The mapmakers named places from their POV. i.e. Harrison Rd is the road taken to get to Harrison typically from a place that has authority over the maps and names of places. If you live in Mexico then you’re going to say that way to America, through the Gulf of America. Probably not the goal.

Most miserable bike ride today but I managed a smile once I got in the car. 15 hard fought cold miles. Day 1 of the POHR challenge. Last year I came in last place. But it still made me ride about 40 days between Dec and March that I normally wouldn’t have ridden.

Experimenting with briyani recipes this winter. This air fryer version was exceptional! It charred the chicken perfectly. I left out saffron and ghee and made a three ingredient raita (not even sure if that qualifies as riata) and it was still delicious! Indian recipes are my favorite!

Attended the 100th anniversary of IBEW of Columbus Ohio last evening with over 2400 guests. Three Columbus city council members took the stage to show support. This union paired with mindful development and rehab of buildings worth saving made my husband’s 41-year career a rewarding one.

Speaking of Jason Isbell, @drivebytruckers.bsky.social are at the Newport end of January. We all had masks on at their last concert there. They put on a 3 hour show that raised the risers out of that old concert hall. Those boys come to play.
