There's a certain type of Delaware political writing that is very simplistic and operates off the assumption that everyone is in on the conversation that the writer is clearly having with their sources. Populism very notoriously had little to no base in the cities, and William Jennings Bryan made the urban/rural divide a part of his campaigning. Labor populism was a brief flash in the pan in 1894 that never really won a real election.

I've seen this percolating since Bernie's 2016 campaign: FB memes talking about how democratic socialism means things like Social Security and roads. Not necessarily the most accurate but it (1) destigmatizes the term socialism and (2) reinforces that some things are better left outside the market

Great analysis and also kind of a important note for those trying to replicate this elsewhere: most areas are not majority-renter or have renters who are not nearly as organized. It does show how smart the freeze the rent msg was in this context. Different areas just need to find different ideas.

This is such a good point. Even if harassment isn't a dealbreaker for you for some reason, those impulses towards unaccountability and abuse don't stop there. The same thing that makes you think you can get away with that can also, say, lead to you allowing thousands of nursing home deaths.
